Windows 10 Remote Desktop with Mullvad VPN

Trying to get the iOS Remote Desktop client to remote into my W10 machine. Use case is managing my Plex server remotely.

Can’t figure out which ports/IPs to use. Tried using Tailscale, and it worked, but it removes the privacy aspect of Mullvad. Tried using a Wireguard Mullvad protocol config download, but couldn’t get it working to connect to my LAN.

Can anyone provide advice on this?

I manage my Plex remotely with AnyDesk, simple and effective.

I checked them out but they have paid tiers. Is there no way to do it locally?

Port Forwarding has a price. You won’t find any service with free port forwarding.

Is this not something that the wireguard server using Mullvad’s config files could be used for? With Wireguard the default port used is 51820. Why couldn’t remote access be available using that port?

There’s more than just Mullvad to know if your Plex can have remote access. For starters, if you run Plex behind Mullvad, you’ll never get remote access, period, you need port forwarding for that. Wireguard has nothing to do with remote access.

Make sure:

- If you want to keep using Mullvad, split tunneling and select Plex Server

- Make sure your ISP allows open ports (ie. my Internet is CGNAT and I can’t open ports).

- Make sure your router has the port open

- Make sure your local firewall (ie. Windows firewall) doesn’t have Plex blocked

My Plex server is running fine being split tunnelled with Mullvad. That’s not my issue.

I want to use my iPhone RD client to access my W10 PC remotely. I can get it working no problem when Mullvad is off. I’m not sure how to get it working while Mullvad is on.

Would a Mullvad Wireguard config (rather than using the Mullvad app) assist with this? If so, how? What IP address(es) would I input on my iPhone RD client?
