Why.. why does it work sometimes.. and sometimes not... randomly?

Anyone else have this issue where you flip you computer on… come back a few mins later… log in to computer and YAY… VPN is connected. Then… after a few days in a row of glory-ness… you log in one day… and nothing. White icon. Click on it… and you are presented with the Login panel. You manually have to login via the web?

I don’t get it. How the hell does it work sometimes, then not, then again, then not. It’s completely random too. It literally makes no sense. If it never worked… or always worked then an update and then stopped… I could understand. But initially when I bought in to NordVPN some months back, it seemed to work consistently for a time. Then this started to happen and it’s been like this ever since.

If I hadn’t bought in to the 2 year plan… I’d be looking for alternatives at this point. Wondering if there is some way to get my UDM Pro Gateway/Router to run a VPN… then my entire network would be behind it.

Token renewal failed and Logout will occur (2 lines, one above the other)

The token failing to renew is apparently the problem. I’ve been using IKEv2 protocol (on a Mac) and it’s been mostly ok since the upgrade to ver 7. Lynx and Open have been problematic though.

iOS and MacOS app. It’s not a bug but more so a feature.

They have had this issue for years and constantly say “we are working on it”. Look back at posts from like 2 years ago… same customer challenges.

I think people just give up and leave, new customers come in and it’s a revolving door. I have been super understanding for nearly half my yearly subscription and it just doesn’t get fixed.

My problem is sometimes it just stops working and I have to uninstall and reinstall.

Try resetting the app through the diagnostics tool - did this a couple of updates ago and it worked quite well since.

This drives me up the wall so much that I’m considering switching to a different VPN provider. How hard is it to stay logged in?

Glad to know I am not alone then. I agree. It is crap that I paid for this and it’s not fixed.

I chased this up with the Support people and they said they might fix it in Feb but couldn’t guarantee it is a royal pain in the ass.

FYI, it’s not rated so highly. 99% of VPN review websites are a total sham. Nord and a few other big companies spend a shit ton of money on marketing and offer crazy high affiliate rates to be recommended by YT reviewers and VPN “review” sites.

If you check out the cash back offers on Nord, it’s always like 40-80% back, so one would assume they give the same amounts to all the YT people who recommend them.

That means that these YT guys are likely getting $40+ dollars for every person that signs up using one of their links or promo codes and that money will just come from Nords marketing budget.

If you choose to sign up from a cash back site instead, at least you put most of that money back into your own pocket.

That being said, I’ve noticed that since shortly before the merger with Surfshark was announced, Nord started getting shitty for me after a solid year or so of no issues. Now, I get sites like BBC and Netflix giving me a hard time when I want to watch something so I end up using a different VPN.

It’s tough though, because a lot of people just want to stream content using a VPN and that’s my use case, so if it continues to work for that, I’m willing to subscribe, but if the issues continue I’ll look elsewhere. I use my own personal VPN when I want actual security like logging into an account when using public wifi.

There are some good privacy focused subreddits you can check out for VPN recommendations if you need alternatives.

i don’t really understand *all* the fuss about nordvpn. though that i can get behind. the logging in and out thing is incredibly obnoxious and i don’t understand how nord hasn’t yet fixed that.

Even after reboot? Do you manually connect? I have to use their login button on the dialog… which opens up browser… I then log in via web… it then runs fine.

Every now and again the background task doesnt run. Not sure what/why.

If it happened every time… and it was a bug they were fixing… fine. That it works sometimes… and then doesn’t… is what I dont get. It’s baffling. But there are a few other posts on here you should read. Diagnostic tool has a Reset App option you can try that. Uninstall/Reinstall see if that fixes it.

If I may ask, which VPN did you switch to? Nord keeps randomly logging me out, looking for an alternative…

When this happens, nothing happens when I click the icon, even after a reboot.

Nord is still working best for me when it comes to streaming. I use Windscribe from time to time but they dont have as many servers as Nord so it ends up not working as well for content streaming.

They have a free tier you can try where you get like a few GBs of usage per month. At least you can see if it works well for your needs before paying anything.

The log out issue is really annoying with Nord and I’m hoping they fix it soon.
