Why does it keep disconnecting? (Firewalla Gold)

Why does it keep disconnecting? (Firewalla Gold)

It can be so many reasons

  • bad ethernet cable
  • bad port on the firewalla or your modem (port 4 connecting to)
  • software issue on your modem that cause it to flap
  • you have a switching loop if you accidentally connected two interfaces to the same WAN
  • If the modem reboot … it may flap the interface as well

The most common issue we know of is a bad cable … try a different one first.

I had that same problem. It was a bad Ethernet cable for me.

Every so often the device in front of my Firewalla will take a hit and then it will sometimes do this for WAN and WiFi as WAN connections. Rebooting the Firewalla fixes the stability issue.

The tried and true IT support first tier fix.

OP don’t keep me waiting, what was the issue?

from firewalla response the failure rate of modems is ? 50%???

how does a cable suddenly go bad when a Firewalla is installed.

Figure I’ll chime in experiencing a similar issue.

My Firewalla Gold is set to router which connects via ethernet to my Orbi 6 Mesh Network (RBK853) which connects via ethernet to the main AP (RBR850) and via ethernet to two satellites (RBS850). When I turned the main AP from router to AP in the settings, I started getting port 3 disconnects over and over. I came across this thread and followed the advice on the ethernet cable swap. The one I was using was a CAT5E which is what I replaced it with. Seems to have solved the problem so far on disconnects and also increased my port speed from 100Mb to 1Gb.

I agree, cable, or sometimes if the cable is not firmly inserted into the jack. I’ve seen where the tab on the cat45 connector is gone so it only being held in by pressure, and that lack of firm connection will calls flapping.

I did what was suggested and found that the Ethernet cord was not totally plugged in due to the “click” mechanism breaking. Now that error message is no longer there but another error has appeared and it still doesn’t work. So I purchased a new Ethernet cord and am waiting for it to arrive.

Just needed a new Ethernet cable.

Yep … I just added another reason, if the modem reboots it will also flap like that
