Which one is more better: Desktop VPN app or Chrome Extension?

The desktop app is better. The app will protect you from a system level - so ALL traffic from the Desktop should be routed through it. Most desktop apps will also have a feature that will help protect you from IP/DNS leaks.

The chrome extension will only route the traffic from the webpage you are visiting through the VPN. This is website level, not even browser level. Any other traffic on your computer will not use the VPN (Spotify, Microsoft, Firefox, Mail, etc).

It depends on who make the Desktop VPN app or who make the Chrome Extension.

If you can look at the source code (known as ‘Open Source’ or ‘free’ software), then you can see what the software does.

So ISP’s can still see which websites we visit if we use only browser extensions?

They shouldn’t be able to because it’s website level - they’ll just see that you’re hitting a VPN instead of that website (and any other calls on that website).

They would still know that you’re using Spotify for example. If you used Safari that didn’t have the VPN extension, then they ISP would know. The extension only covers the website in that browser with the extension, while the app routes everything on the entire PC through the VPN.

I can use desktop app actually. But the problem is I dont want to login to my Facebook or Gmail or whatsapp with that VPN ip. It should be separated.
