I don’t have a credit card, so I can’t even start those free trials that need to put one. I don’t need a very secure one, I just want to hide my IP address for a specific operation. I guess I could use some free proxy, but those are easily detectable.

Guys, I can thank you enough. This post helped me a lot. Lots and lots of advices and suggestions… Thanks, community.
Mullvad specifically has an entry in their Q&A saying “Why no free plan?”, and the answer ends with “We don’t operate that way – at all.” In between, they explain why “free” VPNs are a bad idea, in very brief terms. Because a “free” VPN really is a bad idea. It costs them money to run, so where does the money come from? If you can’t see the flow of money, then you are the product. “free” VPNs sell your data, that’s how they pay for their servers, website, staff, and everything else. In fact, “free” == your data being for sale is the driving force behind most “free” internet services, and is essentially the whole reason behind the entire push for online privacy.
“free” is not the same as free.
If you want to hide your IP address, without paying, your best option is probably TOR, but it’s slow. Try it out, see if you can tolerate how slow it is. If you want faster, you need to pay, either with $$$ or with your personal data.
“free” is not the same as free.
protonvpn has a free tier with several limitations. I did not have to enter any CC info for it.
their paid plans support their free tier, so if you like the service try to upgrade if possible.
protonvpn is decent afaik
Windscribe: availalbe for windows and mac as gui, command line for linux
Linux command version is very interactive and easy. As easy as windscribe login, windscribe connect
chrome and firefox extension also available for browser proxy
Mullvad accept cash payment.
Starbucks, McDonald’s, library, etc.
The free ones suck, to put it bluntly…
If the service is free then the service provider gets their money some other way.
The VPN providers are private companies, they are not doing charity.
Some VPN providers accept bitcoins, you dont need credit card. I personally recommend NordVPN, thats what i use.
Lol, better to use none than a free one.
Protonvpn and self-hosted searx.
Theres good vpns. and theres free vpns. You may pick only one.
Go take some cash to a Walgreens or a Target or some similar store and put $20 on a Visa gift card.
Take the Visa card and go online to it’s website, probably vanillaVisa.com, and put down a zip code for the card. Any zip code will do.
Go sign up for a VPN and use the card to buy it. I recommend Private Internet Access (PIA) simply because they have demonstrated in court that they do not log connections.
Go forth, oh ninja.
RiseUp VPN is free, but they didn’t use Wireguard (if that’s important to you) last I checked. I believe you can pay for Mullvad with crypto.
USe the free vpn provided with the Opera browser if you just need it for some basic shit
If you want it for one time just use tor
I believe PIA (Private Internet Access) has multiple payment methods, like bank transfers, etc.
I’ve been using them for years now with no known issues.
Free VPNs are a very insecure thing
Another suggestion. I use PIA and you can use a starbucks or walmart giftcard for a short subscription.
ProtonVPN Free Tier could be an option
