Hello fellow twitch streamers and viewers! I have a question that I’ve been thinking about for some time now.
Using a VPN while streaming, does it affect anything with the stream you’ve noticed? Do you have a setting where the VPN hops around different locations or just leave it on one location while the stream is going? Any special settings to look into?
I want to get back into streaming, but since I have moved fairly recently and don’t want to dox myself, I would like to use a VPN so nefarious types don’t really get any useful or personal information. I use Surfshark already. Anyone else?
Thank you
Don’t hop locations mid stream.
At best the connection will drop and have to re-establish.
If you don’t have disconnect protection enabled then I imagine at worse it’ll just end the stream and kick everyone off.
VPN could be useful if you’re going to share your screen OR if you will be playing the game on the streaming PC. Sometimes games can connect peer to peer which can reveal your IP.
Twitch streams themselves can’t leak your IP to viewers. Just twitch themselves will see the server connection.
This is a plus for 2pc setups. You can stream on your normal connection, and vpn hop on your gaming pc. If your goal is to hop locations for games.
You can achieve the same thing with using a virtual machine if you so desire. Gaming inside the virtual machine is likely an unfun experience, but it will allow you to use a single computer to achieve decent stream quality and gaming location hopping.
Do you mean to the Twitch servers or with games? Either way, you can split tunnel if things don’t work right. I probably would split tunnel OBS since even a great VPN will have hiccups every once in a while.
I’ll delete my other comment btw, best of luck!
No problem! Thank you again!
