The feature used to work perfectly, but now it doesn’t work anymore. I have WiFi and Cellular connection rules set to “do nothing,” VPN on demand turned on, and Detect MagicDNS hostnames turned on. But when I try to connect to an application running on a device through Tailscale with a MagicDNS address, Tailscale doesn’t automatically turn on, even thought it used to. So, what should I do? Delete and reinstall the app? Something else?
Do you have any other VPN installed on this device?
Are you running the latest ios version?
what iOS version are you running right now?
I am on ios 18 as well and can confirm, it doesn’t work sometimes when I switch from wifi to cellular, its picky when it wants to work. It used to work spotlessly before.
Same here. It used to work when I tested it last year but not working anymore. No other VPN installed on the iPhone (iOS 18.1.1) and VPN on demand activated on the VPN profile too.
Same here. I’m using iPadOS 18.1 Developer Beta 6.
I’m having the same issue. Running latest public iOS build & latest Tailscale version pushed to App Store.
VPN on demand config for each interface is “do nothing”; Detect MagicDNS hostnames is toggled on.
When I try to navigate to a MagicDNS hostname finishing in .*ts.net, it only works if I have manually turned on Tailscale before. If not - it does not automatically connect, I just get a ‘can’t resolve’ error.
Any clues how I should approach debugging this?
18.2 and it doesn’t work. Something in ios18 borked it - it was perfect on 17 for me.
Same is not working for me… any updates?
Yes, I have another VPN installed. However, it’s not on when I’m experiencing this issue. I’m on IOS 18 (latest)
