Virginia's Age Verification On Adult Websites Is Worse Than You Think

Starting today in preparation for the piece of legislation unanimously passed by the VA house you will no longer be able to access pornhub and if you go to other websites such as xhamster below you will get this message.

So in order to watch adult materials you need to have the website TAKE A PICTURE of you which is then used by an unspecified third party provider. Anyone in tech must realize how insanely stupid this is and inevitably there will be a hack linking people’s pictures with their adult website habits.

Regardless of whether or not you consume adult content I think everyone can agree this is a gross overreach of the state government and could lead to some seriously embarrassing hacks and scandals in the future.

Edit: Since this has blown up and many users suggested using a picture of Glenn Youngkin I made a brief video going over that for your enjoyment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=amVHu2mTAtM&lc=UgyweLpCHuVVie-6ZNl4AaABAg

Or as I like to call it ‘lets enrich the VPN industry’ act.

Can you just show the camera a picture of the governor?

So /NSFW about to have a thread of people beating it with pictures of youngkin taped to their faces?

My…friend…used a VPN just a little while ago to get around this pesky little requirement.

Worked like a charm.

According to my friend.

ETA: Thanks to the anonymous redditor who decided to award this comment!

My first award ever…and it’s from a comment about internet porn. Amazing.

Good thing I am “in” Finland.

“Just use a VPN”

They will come for VPNs next folks.

LOL pornhub has blocked VA just like they did UT. Nice work GA + Governor.

I like to explore new places.

Just watch, next they’ll start discussing whether or not using VPNs to skrt these laws is in and of itself a violation of the law, and so forth.

Before some armchair logician talks about the SS fallacy, the SS fallacy is only a fallacy if there is no logical basis for one step to the next. It’s plausible they could use restricting access to VPNs as a solution to people using “loopholes” to get around the law.

Not that they could enforce it if someone knows what they’re doing. But the Republicans need to keep their ignorant ass hands off of internet laws. Both parties actually, but Republicans seem to be the ones with a hard-on for it.

I fucking hate this state. Cant even watch porn in my own home in peace

Between this and no tax free weekend he is really messing with Virginia.

I wonder how lax they are…like, could you just print out a picture of Youngkin’s face and hold it up to the camera? XD

If you are a parent and are for this. Fuck you.

It’s not our job to keep little Timmy from whacking it to BBWs. It’s yours.

The term “1984” gets thrown around a lot. But this is some 1984 shit.

Wtf, legit first I’ve heard of this …

This is seriously the most insane shit I’ve ever seen lol

I’m 65 I guess I will have to go back to the Sears catalog, worked before

Invasion of privacy at its most blatant. As an adult I can no longer have one off the wrist in the comfort of my own home while anonymously viewing porn…. I must identify myself? Thanks Virginia legislators with a special shout out to the GOP for being the party that touts individual liberties but in fact directly undermines them. Pathetic would be kind.

Just flipped private relay to “country and time zone” for my a random stranger’s iPhone, used safari, access restored :grimacing:
