Any help with connecting iOS and Windows to wifi on campus? I can’t seem to connect even though I downloaded eduroam for my iPhone.
Did you register your device on resnet? You can either express register or manually add it in via MAC address which you can find by going to Settings > General > About and scrolling down to “Wi-Fi Address” for iOS devices. The 12 letter address that looks like XX:XX:XX:XX:XX:XX is your MAC address and should be entered in manually on resnet if you cannot express reg. For Windows devices, if you go to the start menu and open up cmd, also known as command prompt, and type in “ipconfig /all”, if you scroll down, depending on whether you are connected to wifi or ethernet, a field called “Physical Address” will be your mac address that looks like XX-XX-XX-XX-XX-XX.
I don’t know if this is an iOS 15 thing, but I had already registered my device and still couldn’t connect. There is a new feature if you go to Settings > Wi-Fi and tap the blue “i” next to the currently connected network, for example, Res-Net Mobile Access, if you scroll down, disable the option private address since it anonymizes your MAC address on the network and will not be able to verify your device with what you have registered.
connect to the wifi and use one of these urls
Call the OIT Help Desk at (949) 824-2222 and they can help you out.
Here’s a link on how to register your devices and find the MAC address: https://www.oit.uci.edu/mobile/registration/find-your-mac-address/
Thank you for your comment. I just tried those things but didn’t work. Thanks, though.
Eduroam
Hmm, then you might only be able to use eduroam. I’m not too sure how the wifi access changes once you are graduated. But to setup eduroam for iOS, go to Settings > General > VPN and Device Management. Delete any old profiles associated with UCI Eduroam. Then in safari go to eduroam Configuration Assistant Tool. Tap on the apple device icon, then tap “Allow.” This will install a profile that will let you connect to the eduroam network, we’re not done yet because we have to allow it to be enabled and set it up. Go back to Settings > General > VPN and Device Management. Then tap on the eduroam profile and tap install in the upper right hand corner. Go through all the pages hitting install until it is installed. After that is done, you should be able to connect to an eduroam hotspot and login with your UCI email and UCInet ID password for “username” and “password”.
The process is a bit different for windows. Back on the cat profile installer page. Below the Apple Device button, there should be another line called “choose another installer to download.” Click that and select your windows installation, for example “Windows 10”. It will prompt you to download a file. Go ahead an install that. I’m not too certain what the process from here is since I haven’t done it with my windows comp yet, but I’ll get back to you with the rest of the steps for windows if you need. I think there was something else to setup as well, but I forget.
