[Tutorial] How to use VPN on Android

1.) Install AnyConnect ICS+ on your device: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.cisco.anyconnect.vpn.android.avf

2.) Download all three individual certificates (not the p7b bundle), by tapping and holding, then pressing Save Link here: Information and Technology Services | RIT

3.) Go into Settings → Security → Install from SD card

4.) Install all three files

5.) In AnyConnect, tap Connection, then tap Add New Connection, and set Server Address to vpn.rit.edu

6.) Go back one screen, then hit the on switch to turn on the VPN

7.) Enter your login info, and you’re all set. Verify you’re connected by searching “What is my IP” and that the result begins with 129.21 (e.g. 192.21.30.40)

NOTE: This is entirely unsupported by RIT, and your are responsible for your own security while using RIT’s VPN on an Android device.

Note: You can do the same on iOS.

  1. Download Cisco Anyconnect client. For whatever reason the built in iOS VPN client wouldn’t pick up on the RIT certs you install below and will not work for creating the VPN profile. Looks like you can use the system VPN toggle for enabling and disabling it though once setup. Scratch that, you have to turn it on and off with the Anyconnect client.
  2. Download those 3 certificates and get them onto your device. I emailed them to myself, I assume any app that displays the certs when on the device will work.
  3. Click on each of the 3 certificates and install them on your device. Mail displayed the certs as clickable files and when you click on them it asks to install them.
  4. Add VPN config
  5. Server Address: vpn.rit.edu
  6. Enter RIT username and password.

Connect.

You can actually just go to Information and Technology Services | RIT in Safari on iOS, tap on the certificate(s) links, and hit install. You HAVE to use Safari, since the certs won’t install through 3rd party browsers (Chrome, Opera, etc)

Lol, well that’s easier.
