UBER Designer Joost van der Ree should make something about it. I don’t know if he sold his photo for commercial use, but I surely cannot find anything on stock image sites.
Fake testimonial, fake name and stolen photo - wtf, Totalvpn?
I cannot buy anything from a company that fakes credibility. Shame!

I’ve reached out to TotalVPN for comment. Will update this sticky if/when I get a response.
Update: Currently on live chat with TotalVPN. Getting stonewalled at every turn.
Update 2: Over an hour and still on with live chat.
Update 3: After 2 hours of live chat, at least I have an interesting conversation to share. Note that time is only stamped for the first comment in a block, so subsequent messages aren’t stamped to show the passage of time. Pastebin here. Imgur link created for historical purposes here
Update 4: I called the phone number from the live chat, which went something like this.
Support: (In heavy accent) Thank you for calling TotalVPN
TOPG: I spoke with live chat who said you’d be able to help me, are you the manager there?
Support: Yes, I’m a senior executive at TotalVPN
TOPG: Good (explains situation, gives link, provides evidence)
Support: Everything on our website is authentic.
TOPG: (Explains that this is impossible given the name and photo don’t match, that it’s Joost van der Ree, etc)
Support: I can’t help you, I’m just a billing support tech.
Update 5: I’ll be making a post with this info on TOPS later today.
Update 6: It’s up
GLORIOUS.
You guys are doing good work.
Sad fact is, a lot of internet companies do this. And you can clearly see its a fake testimony, by what they are saying.
Can you post a photo of Joost for comparison? The only ones I can find are pencil sketch profile photos.
Haha, your conversation with their support was fun. I had chat TotalVPN support regarding refund once, so I thought it’s bot is talking to me. Or support person simple doesn’t speak English. They even could not understand my questions and I repeatedly was getting phrases like “I didn’t get you. Will you please elaborate?”
I remember Joost was made aware of the situation a couple of days ago on Dribbble. I don’t know if he cares or not about the whole thing, but either way this taints the provider’s reputation badly.
I’d like to think it’s Rowan Atkinson (Mr Bean) making money off of creating fake reviews using Uber executives.
In reality, it’s just crappy shady marketing.
Never trust a “testimonial”. Even on TV it’s always paid actors who don’t even use the product. I’d say look for independent reviews, but it is hard to find those for VPNs as well.
There was this VPN that used images from the Symantic site. But mirror flipped
