TorGuard Doesn’t Use Split-Tunneling? Nope. And Here’s Why…

so why does TG have split tunneling on android?

also more importantly, why did TG say it was going to release split tunneling as far back as 2020, and now seems to have done a 180 on it

also interesting how the medium author seems intent on praising torguard in the last 5 posts or so without ever mentioning it once before, while also trashing other VPNs…

u/TorGuardVPN I am thinking about signing up, I currently am using NordVPN. I have several programs that should not be ran through VPN. I have a single program that I use a VPN for. With the absence of Split Tunneling, is there a way to run a single program through your VPN on PC? Because the VPN endpoint is shared by many users, running certain programs through the VPN can result in rate limiting, and IP Bans. Does your VPN offer a way to work within these parameters?

We offer it on Android (requires Android 5.0 or higher) because it works.

We developed the split tunnel feature for desktop years ago but decided not to release it due to potential security issues at the OS level. We won’t release a feature that does not work 100%.

It is interesting that the author praises TorGuard, because he’s not affiliated with us and we didn’t commission the articles. Real people writing articles on their own accord from personal experience—what a concept, right?

(It’s also interesting that this is your second post on Reddit, lol)

Our IPs aren’t oversold, and we offer a free VPN add-on that provides either a dedicated or a residential IP address so you can use all your programs through the VPN tunnel without rate limiting or IP bans. Our first suggestion is to try this and test some shared locations, as it might work for your use case. Does your app, which requires split tunneling, support SOCKS5 or an SSL proxy? If so, this method would allow you to tunnel select application traffic and mask your IP address.

Will you ever update the Android app? Last update 18.april 2023!

Don’t say the app is perfect. Can’t even whitelist Android Auto.

Wait, you mean to tell me that there’s actually people out there who are recommending your products based on their own experience and not affiliated with your company or shoving affiliate links down people’s throats for their own financial benefit? No way. Can’t be. Lmao.

Yes, clearly you just happened to find some random medium writer who also just happens to suddenly love torguard so much that he wrote 5 articles in a row about it while also addressing some of the main complaints people on this forum have had with tg recently. maybe John will write about how torguard is not open source like Mullvad and Windscribe, and how thats a bad thing too, or maybe why torguard still has no audits like mullvad, ivpn, and windscribe

this writer is clearly just a superfan and a good Samaritan who you also just happened to find while scrolling his medium profile that has no views

Yes we are updating it this month. We haven’t tested it with Android Auto but will look into it for you.

There are very few of them left on the internet.

We haven’t open-sourced the client because we offer Shadowsocks in-app, and open-sourcing it entirely could lead to abuse on these servers. TorGuard is a paid service that offers features other VPNs don’t, and there are reasons we haven’t open-sourced it yet. We provide an OpenVPN and WireGuard config generator so users can easily utilize an open-source VPN client if they choose to.

We audit our infrastructure regularly and have maintained an active bug bounty program over the years. Our no-log policy has been proven in court, which is the ultimate audit that really matters. Paid auditing firms are just for PR and don’t really prove anything other than that things were in order on the day everyone knew the auditors were showing up.

Great.

Mullvad has split tunneling, is cheaper than torguard and doesn’t require discounts, is open source, requires no email to make an account, does no advertising and has no affiliate program and it has audits.

So why would anyone use TorGuard over it besides some random proxies no one cares about?

Please don’t spam multiple postings

FYI. There is a split tunneling work workaround that I use that works very well for me.

I setup a gluetun (using Torguard) docker container. Then i point all of my other docker containers that need to go through Torguard to it.

So anything in docker goes through the vpn and everything outside of docker goes to normal internet.

  • Mullvad is blocked in many countries, whereas random TorGuard proxies (V2ray/Shadowsocks/SSL) work.

  • Mullvad is $5.46/month (free on Telegram), while TorGuard is $4.99/month.

  • Mullvad offers 45+ countries, whereas TorGuard offers 50+.

  • TorGuard is faster in speed tests and does not randomly disconnect.

  • TorGuard provides a member login with username, password, and 2FA support, while Mullvad only offers an account number.

TL;DR: Mullvad is a good niche VPN. TorGuard is also a good VPN with more features and better performance.

-These proxy plans are not priced the same. On the website they seem significantly more expensive.

-Mullvad doesn’t require fake coupon codes like your website does.

-so u have 5 more countries? who cares?

-whose speed tests? yours?

-none of those are advantages. mullvad can’t track you with your accounts and requires less advantages.

We’re comparing VPN plans, which come with SSL—V2ray is a separate service. The coupon codes on our site work, so they’re not fake. The speed tests are reported by clients. Every VPN has its own advantages, which makes the industry diverse. Your turn.
