You should probably just add a warning that using a VPN with many streaming services (including Netflix) is a violation of terms of service and could result in the suspension of accounts. Granted… most are not strictly enforcing the policy since they don’t want to lose customers and they simply region lock the content on those accounts once detected regardless of the use of a VPN.
In fact… I think someone just the other day was complaining on r/Netflix about getting their account geo-locked.
Also… if you use a VPN to purchase content from iTunes/AppleTV from other regions stores, it is now a violation of Apple’s TOS and purchased content can/will be removed… so don’t be an idiot and at least create a different iTunes account for the different region you may be accessing.
Been using Tailscale since tvOS 17 came out. Free and works flawlessly.
Not a vpn and a different use case, but throwing it out there for those who don’t know about it.
Executive summary: dedicated Linux SBC in my closet and connected to router via Ethernet, son at college has ATV. He can use all of our services and traffic routes through my ISP (gigabit fiber - performance is fantastic).
Kind of wild that I’ve been wanting this forever and only just found out about it months later through a Reddit post instead of being told by the actual company
Do you think they will be able to add the function where you can select the apps that run through the VPN, like you can with Google TV? Only want to use it with 2 apps, but currently have to switch it off when I want to watch iPlayer or Pluto.
other than VPN , im not sure how to watch other region movie ? I meant im willing to pay for streaming service , can please teach me a way ? Can create 2 Apple ID with the same phone number for different region movie usage purpose ? or ?
Try a different server. Had MlbTv with nord some time ago and had to switch US servers from time to time as they kept getting blocked. Used an international server and it worked for the whole season
Any more info on this? I turned on Smart DNA using surf shark and manually changed my DNS on my Apple TV, and I’m still showing blackouts for local games. Any ideas?
Can I dig a little here? This sounds like an ideal use case for me going back and forth to a vacation home, but unable to access live tv (Hulu with LiveTV) at sed vacation home because I’d have to mark it as a move. Is there a way I can access my live tv, on apple tv at the vacation home, from my home network?
If you have a US AppleID and use a VPN to purchase something only available in the UK store in your US account… then that title may be removed once you switch regions back to the US since the distribution rights for that title are for the UK only.
That’s why those who use a VPN have different AppleIDs for different regions.
Different accounts for a streaming service like Netflix won’t really matter because if their system detects the use of a VPN they will region lock the account to what they believe is your legitimate region. This does not mean it will definitely happen… just that several people have come on to these forums to report they have been region locked.
For Apple… It’s common for people who use AppleTV/iTunes to have separate accounts for separate regions because if you keep all titles from a specific region to a specific account… it reduces the chances of triggering any red flags compared to having let’s say a UK based account with US store content that is not available in the UK and subsequently getting removed.
It’s the people who use a single account and region hop that tend to trigger any flags and have stuff removed.
The most famous case of someone having content removed that got a lot of online publicity from articles and websites that triggered the whole fear of digital content being removed by Apple turned out to be someone who was region hopping.
All the articles created digital fear mongering… but very few of them published a follow up that mentioned how it turned out that person was using a VPN to bypass regional distribution rights. That’s why the Apple’s TOS was revised.
