Does anyone else find that running a VPN on phone slows it down? My phone over heats when I use it.
of course there’s a slowdown, you’re adding another hop to your route. however, provided you pick a good server, it shouldn’t be THAT bad.
and heat? no, haven’t noticed it at all. guess it depends on your hardware but i can’t think that any modern phone would struggle to cope with a vpn connection. I’d wager something else is going on.
Is this a “free” VPN. Might honestly be bitcoin mining
Since a VPN requires that the phone is not going idle to keep the connection up, it wouldn’t surprise me. My phone got a bit warmer too, when I was running with my own OpenVPN-subnet that way even if it was never about overheating anything.
Then that makes no since. The encryption is really not hard for a phone to do so it shouldn’t really hurt your battery that much. Really should just have an increased latency
Maybe it’s because it’s been used a lot. I’ve downloaded a lot of movies and such with it. I’m due for a new phone. Phones these days seem to be trash after a year.
I format my phone and reinstall everything once a year and it keeps it new. It’s definitely not the VPN but the downloading
