Router options for VPN on Spectrum?

I want to install a VPN on my wifi router, however the spectrum router I have doesn’t support VPN, meaning I need a third party router. Anyone have third party routers they recommend with spectrum?

There are tons of things you can use. It does not specifically need to be a router. You can run a server on the inside of your network.

What type of VPN, client, server, protocol being used? As u/Training_Ad9211 mentioned using a VPN client will reduce your throughput and that will vary depending on the protocol being used and the router.

VPN will cause slow speeds… if you call in for slow speeds spectrum will charge you….

This is not a feature of the VPN so much as an underpowered router, or oversubscribed VPN server.

You mean specifically a VPN on a third party router will cause slow speeds?

VPN changes your location therefore causing slow speeds… because now the internet has to ping the VPN server which is probably miles away before it pings your computer….

Any VPN I’ve run into almost always was causing slow speeds… what exactly do you want the VPN for ?

No… that’s not why it’s slow. A few miles have no bearing on transit over fiber. A packet can get from Florida to Washington state in 60 ms over fiber.

Do you have and concept of how the internet works? All traffic bounces through many locations on the way to its destination. This is nothing like driving through a school zone - terrible analogy.

GeoIP spoofing and security.

:skull: bro Im not even going to argue with you anymore you’re clearly brain dead…. Just click the link I posted and read… if you can even read….

I don’t need to read some amateur article. I work with global ISP networks and operate VPN servers. I can quantify the impact on throughput. You’re passing information that is based on generalizations and false equivalence. Your second/third hand “knowledge” does not trump firsthand experience and data.

Bruh hes pretty stubborn but hes right

VPN isnt automatically slow. Ive seen plenty run just fine without slowing things down.

That being seen Ive also seen plenty of cheapass VPNs running on cellphones with malware apps and yeah, thats gonna slow things down.

Do VPNs add 0 hops and latency? NO.

Does it inheirtly tank your connection, NO.
