Router: Adblock app?

Is there any easy way to turn a Synology router into an automagic ad blocker?

I run AdBlock (similar to pihole) in Docker on a Synology NAS. I point the DNS on my (non synology) router to the IP of the Docker instance. It’s been running great. Noticeably less ads when I’m in my home Internet versus cellular data. There are plenty of tutorials out there, both written and video. Doesn’t t ake long at all to set up.

Use the built-in Safe Access feature, it works well:

You can block known ad domains in the safe access feature. Although not as advanced as Pihole…

Work well using Vmm + Ubuntu server+docker+pihole
Separate IP address much easier to handle

I thought that used a separate device — versus within the router itself.

I did this but now it’s not playing any YouTube videos because the sponsored video isn’t starting. How do I make exception for YouTube.com? I added “youtube.com” to the list but it didn’t work. Not sure if there’s a specific IP I need to add.

I’ve never worked with a Synology router so I’m not sure what they can/can’t run, but if you have a Raspberry Pi, a Docker host, or some side of hypervisor like VMware ESXi, you could do a PiHole install on any one of those pretty easily.
