I’m just going to make a comment here just to stir the pot.
The official proton vpn app for Linux is poo poo. The android iteration is far superior to that of the Linux app. Like I would expect the android app to be more Fishy Price than the Linux desktop app.
On Linux we are missing Auto connect, Auto reconnect, The chill cyber punk connection map, profiles, VPN accelerator, allow LAN connections, and Split Tunneling.
Like, Yo… I’m paying for the VPN Plus package. Where is my Plus?
I like ProtonVPN (I have plus account), but the Linux GUI is too simple. I’m using protonvpn-cli, but it has not many options. ProtonVPN for Android and Windows works fine. I’m using Linux on my desktop. Please improve the Linux app!
(Sorry for my poor english)
Yo. The Linux GUI client is the bare minimum. If u want to see the load of the different servers u have to hover the mouse in front of every single one to get a tooltip showing the % (They probably want to go for a clean design instead of a functional one). Also the server list sorting is off - SERVER#11 comes before SERVER#2 because of the spelling. A weird choice.
Afaik u can’t change protocol, so u have to use the CLI version for things like that.
Did you try the new official CLI yet?
When I signed up they promised me a Linux app and showed me the windows app screen shot. Was a little disappointed to say the least.
This is the one I’m talking about. (Edit: I switched from mullvad to proton because I was promised more than mullvad had to offer. I have no interest in using a command line interface. I would have not played the annual subscription and stuck with mullvad if I knew this was what I was getting.)
Lol naw, just going to move it back to Mullvad. Haven’t used windows in years. And if I have to ask someone if the app is the same on Linux as the advertised image when signing up after being told on the same page that it has a Linux app then some proton needs to re think a few things.
There’s already a linux GUI, without the fancy graphs, but does include the basics like quick connection, auto-reconnect, part of VPN accelerator, allows LAN connections, and has a full killswitch setup. If you scroll down, you can see a demo of the app.
I preferred Mullvad on Linux as well since Proton seems to prioritize other operating systems. Even the gui for Linux is relatively new. That said, I’m usually on Windows so I’m satisfied.
They offer a money back guarantee, by the way. If you do it within 30 days, Proton will refund you for the unused portion of your service.
You literally have open sourced apps and a free membership tier to make an informed purchase decision. Don’t let the door hit you on your way out.
Yea I was disappointed with protonvpn. Thanks for the tip BTW. I’m gona get my money back and throw it Mullvads way or look more into iVPN.
