hi my m8s been telling me to use it but idk my friends are conflicted between arguments so i thought i would come here and see what others have to say should i use should i not, please dont be bias try be honest thank you
Up to some updates ago, I was confident Opera was an awesome browser. Easy to use, base VPN and being able to use Chromium extension in case.
However, as the updates go on, first there was a huge problem with all bookmarks and extensions disappearing, then the starting sound which some people find it very annoying. So it definitely has some issues and it’s unclear how the DEVs are upgrading it each time.
The RAM usage raises to a considerable amount when multiple tabs are opened at the same time, so if you have an old PC it may not be the best choice.
Anyway, my house PC all use Opera.
I can’t think of anything else to add right now…
Pros
-
Tab island is god damn awesome and unique feature. There is no different browser has this. Not even close.
-
Opera One visual design so sleek. Looks gorgeous. Colors, buttons, menus look great.
-
Integrated AI bot is so easy to use and useful.
-
Really fast browser and good compatibility (chrome based)
Cons
-
Bugs break the browser.
-
History sync is a real disaster. If you use the browser on 2 different devices with the same account; your history wont sync properly. Users reporting this issue since 2019 and opera still ignoring the them. Its very annoying. (This is the main reason i left opera one) You can never trust opera for the user experience with 2 device usage.
-
Almost every update breaks some features on browser. (Losing history, passwords or other user datas)
-
Opera is owned by china consortium. Their headqurters are in europe but completely chinese company. (This is my 2nd big reason for the privacy concerns cuz China is not known by their responsibility or sensitivity about user privacy) lots of disaster news can be found on internet about china and privacy issues.
-
Fingerprint restrictions and tracker blockage features are not enough.
-
Using too much CPU (power consumption is high)
I use Firefox. I recommend firefox. I use Firefox One CSS theme on firefox and its looking exactly same as Opera One design.
only missing thing is Tab Island feature and eventually Firefox will have the same feature. Developers are working on it currently.
I have used Opera Off and On for decades now and here is what you can expect. The way everyone is telling you about the new issues after updates is NOTHING NEW. Opera has this almost pathological need that once they get a rock solid browser squared away…to break it and piss people off. It has happened with multiple versions. Outside that Opera has always been my favorite browser because when it is a rock solid version it runs nice and fast and smooth. The only other downside is like already mentioned when you get too many tabs open it can become a memory hog. Honestly though its not to much different in that regard than straight up chrome anyway so you might as well use it since Opera at least has some more advanced security and privacy features built in that you have to go accomplish yourself on regular old chrome with plugins and advanced configurations. That and Operas layout and interface is FAR superior IMO. If you can accept all that then just keep a backup browser installed incase the company decides to blowup their browser with an update. My backup is IRON.
Before it was Converted to Opera One, it was very light, very fast, just awesome with the sidebar, and quite a bit of interesting options, after the update that now has it being called “opera on” for some reason, for me it makes the CPU use go up to 80%-90%, for about 5 minutes( theres no overheating or anything like that, it just acts as if its rendering a video, or running a high end game or something) and then drops to 15%, as if nothing happened, and after the last update, adding to that weirdness, now this happens: -excluding youtube- videos from reddit, imgur, and other sites, they all stutter very weirdly, as if the video encoder was broken, or had gone mental, but youtube looks fine, no problems, its extremely annoying
Best thing to do is to install it and check yourself if it suits you.
Note that you can make test standalone installations of regular Opera (Opera One) and Opera GX to folders on your desktop that won’t interfere with your default browser or write to the registry etc. That way, you can safely test them without worry.
The Ad Blocker is now known to YouTube, and so I cannot use the browser to watch it.
