Update 2: After a couple weeks its dead again and no longer loads anything. I’m no longer looking for solutions. I’m entirely done with Opera being absolute garbage and have left this subreddit. It’s back to Chrome for this woman.
Update 1: I was finally able to fix it after leaving it uninstalled for a few days and then installing it through the Windows Store
Browser: Opera GX
Current Version: LVL6 (core: 112.0.5197.60)
OS: Windows 11 Pro 64bit 23H2 64gb ddr5ram RTX 4090 Ryzen 7950x
Issue: So no matter what I do Opera GX fails to load all webpages after being open for a few minutes this happens on every profile no matter what I do. When I say all webpages, that includes everything on the left quickbar, and its own settings page.
Things Ive tried:
- Full reinstallation of Opera
- Disabling all extensions including Operas
- Changing DNS to a custom DNS
- Reinstalling but leaving Opera GX Stock
- Deleting Opera GX and then deleting every file from Opera across my entire PC
- Disabling/enabling “Use DNS-over-HTTPS instead of the system’s DNS settings”
- emptying my cache
- emptying all temp files
- Installing Opera GX on separate SSD and HDD
- enabling/disabling hardware acceleration
- Switched to its internal VPN
- Switched to an External VPN
- Ran it alongside multiple other browsers, none of which had any issues whatsoever.
- Booted in Safe Mode
- Disable/Enable All limiters individually
- Went to Opera Forums (This was useless, they closed my thread twice and linked to another thread from 2018 of the same issue that had no answers at all and was locked)
- Installed regular Chromium (Worked perfectly)
I might have forgotten some things I did.
But yeah, I’m at a total loss here, i’ve tried everything I can think of, everything multiple of my friends can think of. Nothing works.
Does anyone have any ideas here? Has anyone else had this issue and found a fix?
I also have videos of the issue happening I can share but I was unable to find anything about if I can do that in a post here so I felt I should wait and just add it in the comments if needed.
Some help would be seriously appreciated, I don’t want to have to stop using Opera GX entirely, but I’ll be forced to otherwise.
GX LVL4 (core: 89.0.4447.64) still alive and kicking. With or without “VPN” proxy.
There have been others mentioning this, but it usually happens after Opera has been open for a while and not just a few minutes.
Did this just start happening for you or has it been going on for a while?
When Opera GX acts up, will it load any settings pages like opera://settings or does that fail too? Will the task manager shift + esc at least load?
What’s Opera’s RAM and CPU usage after it acts up?
If Opera’s task manager still loads, try to kill some of the extension processes to see if Opera comes back alive again.
Long shot, but with hardware acceleration on, adjust the Angle flag for your GPU and see if it still happens.
A separate thing you can try as a test (not a solution) is to launch Opera in a command prompt (or modified shortcut that does it) like this:
"C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\Programs\Opera GX\opera.exe" --disable-gpu --disable-extensions --no-experiments
Think of that as kind of an Opera safe mode.
You can also test --no-sandbox
I’m having similar problems. Lately Opera GX has just been refusing to properly load sites all the way…
Saving this post! Been experiencing the exact same issues and can’t even open the settings tabs to fix anything! I hope someone comes up with a solution soon.

If anyone is having this issue I found a “fix” that has been working for me. In task manger there is a “opera crash reporter” I closed it and everything works fine until the next time I restart my computer, just do it again and it works.
I had been struggling with this for almost 2 weeks before I found this “fix”

Yeah, this issue goes back to lvl3 according to the opera forums, I still have no fix for it. Theres seemingly no cause for it
I’ll try the angle in the morning, but No opera://settings doesn’t load.
The longest GX has gone before doing this is 2.5 minutes.
Task manager shows opera using basically nothing resource wise. Shift-escape doesn’t load the opera task manager either.
It started overnight about 5 days ago and hasn’t stopped it was working great before
I was hoping this would solve it but nope, still does the exact same thing. This might be the end of me using Opera GX.
I haven’t tried no sandbox I have tried running it from command prompt with those exact parameters ,it still rapidly breaks
so its not just me, well I hope you find a way to solve it, if you do i’d love to know

yeah, I haven’t found any fix and I’m worried that I’m gonna have to move to a different browser with less customization

Alguma solução definitiva para o problema? o que tem resolvido momentaneamente o problema é quando vc abra uma aba que não carrega eu abro o gerenciador e fecho o processo do “Opera GX crash-reporter” e as abas voltam instantaneamente
The same problem, it started not so long time ago, and I was thinking in the beginning that maybe it was some problem with internet connection, but I have found that it was the problem with Opera. Practically, it is not possible to work in Opera now, I started to use Google Chrome, but I still come back every day to Opera hoping that they will fix the issue. I have disabled all extensions, but it doesn’t help.
