I downloaded opera and really like the UI/UX of the browser, I was able to install extensions and stuff no problem, but I am curious about the pre-existing vpn, how does it work? Is my data and search history safe?
I am currently on my Apartments wifi (installed today and free), so I dont want the apartment to have access to any residents… the ISP is Spoton Networks
Opera’s VPN is not even a proper VPN. Don’t waste time for it, get a real VPN or Tor Browser. Most free VPNs collect your data and sell it “somewhere far far away”. Tor gives you a lot more privacy.
-
The browser will still retain your browsing history, cookies and what ever is saved during your browsing session.
-
With the VPN (and all VPNs) you will have a public IP address and your browsing activity will be logged by the ISP and websites you visit, that is for all VPNs
-
Read the Opera EULA to see if they keep logs of your VPN session.
-
Using the Opera will only hide your browsing activity from your local ISP you are using, and by that an ISP can be your home or hotel or cafe where you are located.
But please remember there are companies that provide tracking services based on your browser fingerprint, take a look at https://amiunique.org
If you are looking to hide your browsing activity from others on your local network then Opera VPN should be OK for you.
My computer is kind of old is Tor a “heavy” app for cpu or ram?
Do NOT download the Tor but the Tor Browser. Tor Browser is just a Firefox modded to use the Tor network.
