So I recently decided to invest in ExpressVPN, since, for whatever reason, my ISP severely limits my network speed if it sees I’m in the US (We’re talking 2 mbps vs 300 mbps). So far, it’s worked great. I can stream videos in a quality higher than 360p, I can actually download a jpg in less than five minutes, etc. But for whatever reason, I continue to disconnect from an online game I enjoy. Now, it’s entirely possible that the issue is related to something other than my network speed. But I’d like to know if perhaps ExpressVPN doesn’t work on PC games by default? Is there some extra step I need to take, such as adding it to my router, or does it apply automatically?
So does the game disconnect, your PC, or the expressvpn change from green to red?
One thing to try is go to options, then under protocol and switch to lightway - tcp. That will allow for a connection where both sides have to track the traffic and will help in some occurances more than udp connection that you currently are getting.
Since you are doing video it is probably not your ISP, your pc, or express vpn. Your isp does not know if you are doing videos, video games, or copying a file. express vpn does not care, and your pc would probably break during video or copying a file.
One other thing to try would be some other games, try legion of legends or overwatch. Both are free and if you have no issues with them then it is the game. Some games do consider vpns are cheating and will disconnect you, but most will give you notice.
Alright, I’ll try those, thank you. This particularly disconnect is pretty concurrent with network issues, since it involves the other player suddenly not responding for about half a minute before a disconnect. No other players I’ve spoken to have this problem, though I do know this particular game (Guilty Gear Strive) doesn’t have the best servers.
