New to qBittorrent, expressvpn not showing up in network interface

So I read through tons of guides on this, and this specific feature is why I switched to qBT but when I go into network interface settings, I’m seeing 3 different local area connections, wifi, two ethernets, bluetooth, and loopback pseudo interface. I read every thread where people were having similar issues but nothing seems to be doing the trick. A lot of people said to try looking at the list of interfaces with the VPN turned off, which I did, then turn it on and see what has been added to the list but nothing is being added/removed when i turn my VPN on and off, tried restarting qBT every time but nothing. Am I missing something obvious here?

Edit: I’ve also tried this with split tunneling on and with it off. Using win11 and qBT v4.5.4

Edit: One more thing I want to add to this that no other post about this was mentioning, for anyone else who might be having this issue. A lot of people on other forums suggested turning your VPN on and off to see which network interface pops up in your list. There is an easier way to find out which one belongs to your VPN by simply typing in view network connections in your windows search bar and (at least with expressvpn but I’d imagine this is the same for others) it will tell you which network is created by your vpn.

So you need to go into your network settings and see what the name of the network you want to “bind” to. That’s what you set the “Network Interface” to. Mine just says “Local Area Connection” so I selected that and it seems to have done the trick.

I’m having the same problem. Did you ever get it resolved?

Thanks for the help, this did the trick.

It sounds like you are using ExpressVPN? Is that correct? I am using express…my network interface as well does not list Express by name. I did see a really good video that I think explained this.

With VPN on - type CMD (Command Prompt) into search bar at bottom of page (taskbar) - Click on command Prompt - black box appears - type ipconfig next to your name - for me, I get 7 titles (Ethernet adapter Ethernet 3, Local Area connection, wireless lan adapter with-fi, etc. Only two of the seven have what I would call IP-like addresses - Unknown adapter Local Area Connection and Ethernet adapter Ethernet…the rest indicate Media disconnected. MAKE NOTE OF THE ONES THAT HAVE ADDRESSES

now turn OFF your VPN. And repeat - ipconfig at your name at bottom of page….the same “Titles” all come up again EXCEPT NOW my Local Area Connection indicates Media disconnected…everything eles is the same as when the VPN was on.

Lastly, when I turn the VPN back ON again, and repeat again ipconfig next to my name one last time…all 7 titles again show up BUT Local Area Conection once again has addresses associated with it. Thus indicating (for me) that Local Area Connection is what carries MY VPN. This is what I click in the box for network interface

This makes sense to me. However I would like to know a solid test torrent to test it with…one that I know is copywright free and legal. The only way I know to test it would be to download a torrent and while it was downloading, to turn off my VPN. I would expect for the page to disappear as it would for the app kill switch.

Does this make sense to others? Am I correct in what is to be my understanding of what I saw on the vid? And finally, does anyone have a torrent that they know is copywriter legal?

Sorry for the length of this, but it has appeared to me that this is a fairly confusing yet vitally important subject.

How do you test which of those options is the VPN though??

Damn, they deleted it :frowning:

omg op you just saved my life >< i was struggling with this forever and really appreciate this comment

So I got about 30 or so options in my qbittorrent network interface menu. None of them say anything remotely close to expressvpn. Have you come across this issue?

Thanks for the simple directions. Not a computer nerd but this worked perfectly.

Not sure what you mean. Feel free to dm.

That’s why I decided to leave it up. Glad it helped. This is exactly how it went for me as well.

That’s really unfortunate because I’ve referred back to this post in the past already and it was helpful for me again. I can’t remember what he said but I believe it was about changing the protocol in your vpn

Please see my post below in New to torrent, ExpressVPN - you sound like one that knows what they are doing…would like your thoughts - I received a letter before binding and thus am a little spooked about doing anything I am not sure about…to the point that I have tried Nord and may stay with them…however I would still like to know a way of testing the binding definitely before starting again …thus want to know if I am on the right road before I do anything like turning off my vpn - again see my post/reply further down that post please if you have time
