Kaspersky blocking download

For context I was trying to install webkinz on my laptop purely for nostalgia reasons and I keep getting a message from kaspersky saying “Prevented downloading of software that can be used by criminals Some legitimate software can damage your computer if it is used by criminals. Hence, we prevent downloading of remote control programs, auto-dialers, adware, and some other legitimate software. You were protected from downloading this program by Kaspersky security. You can close this window with no risk.”

I have no idea how to bypass this or temporarily disable it. I’m honestly not tech savy at all and don’t have a hot clue what I’m even doing with kaspersky as my family told me to download it and I’ve never had to touch the settings since it’s never given me any issues before now. Any advice is appreciated!

If you want to safely bypass antiviruses you should run your applications in sandboxie. Be careful, sandboxie protect your from viruses damaging your pc but not from spyware so its better to block suspicious programs from accessing the internet. You can achieve this by using a firewall control application in whitelist mode or by configuring sandboxie to prevent softwares from using internet access.

Kaspersky > Settings > General > untick ‘Delete malicious tools, adware…’ > Save

Before you do that though, can you post the link you’re trying to use to download it?

Are you sure you downloaded the correct/authentic file?

These warnings don’t just pop up for any file. I’m certain you do NOT want to ignore it and install it. This is how the stories of “I don’t know what happened. Everything was fine until I installed XYZ, and now my computer is going crazy. Please help.” all begin.

The words ‘remote, control, auto-dialers’ are extremely dangerous words in the world of computers. You want to steer away from these things as much as possible. So much so, that you should turn off the services on your PC related to remote access for your home computer. You don’t need them, and it’s an unnecessary risk/vulnerability.

You admit in your question that you’re not tech savvy, but then you want to second guess the experts who do know what they’re talking about. Something seems out of place here, doesn’t it?

Step 1. Delete the file

Step 2. Download it again, and this time, make sure you download it directly from their site.

Step 3. Try to install it again

Step 4. If you still get the warning, contact their support team (the software you want to install) OR just don’t install it if you don’t really need it.

If this is just some education software, these warnings should not appear - something smells fishy.

Is sandboxie a seperate application? I haven’t heard of it before but I’ll look into it. I’ve never had any issue with Kaspersky before this. And the weird thing is I downloaded this same application a few months ago and it never gave me any issue. But I uninstalled it today and went to the official website and tried to reinstall it and that’s when I got the warning about criminals and all that. I’ll definitely look into sandboxie though, thank you!

I never said I doubted the experts but I got it figured out. Another redditor helped me and also through googling it I found out that the application for webkinz makes anti virus programs think that it’s adware because of the way the application is and it’s a known issue. I was downloading it from the official site and I found a way to download it without any issue.I appreciate your insight though but I got it sorted out!

Updated applications change, and maybe antiviruses detect them as suspicious until they whitelist them. Sandboxie is a separate application, free and open source.
