So I’ve been meaning to test out Disney+, but it isn’t available in my region yet. I’ve installed Opera to try the service out with the VPN, but I’m encountering a strange issue: I’ve set the location to “Americas”, I’ve activated the VPN for search engines as well, but both Google and the Disney+ site assume I’m from the Netherlands. This, of course, does not help.
Any ideas what could be causing this issue? Restarting Opera and clearing browsing data did not help.

I guess there are still other ways of detecting where you’re from if they really want to.
I’d goto the URL opera://settings/webrtc
and play with those settings to see if it stops you from being detected. Maybe look for some webrtc blocking extensions too.
If you visited the site without VPN, you might have to goto the URL opera://settings/siteData
, search for the site and choose “remove all shown” just in case your location was already saved in some cookie or something.
There might be other methods to take to stop from being detected, but I’m personally not sure. There might not even be a way around all ways of detection using Opera’s built-in VPN. You might have to use a good, system-wide VPN. Not sure.
You should also check the User-agent string your Opera is sending to make sure there’s no language codes in there. You might also have to use an extension to spoof your user agent as Chrome.
