Is there anyone using VPN to play ESO

Currently I’m playing ESO from Vietnam. The ping usually at 280 - 330, which is still playable. But recently, when I play at night (after 7PM in vietnam time), the ping is always at 400+, making me die alot (btw, f*y Glemoys Wildhorn, for that cheap “Dear wave attack” move). I will change to a better network provider soon. But do I also need an VPN. Some says it will improve ping in forgein online games. Some says it make the ping even worse.

So what are you opinions?

I live in China and use a VPN to get online for everything. I also use UU Booster to get better ping for online games. I usually get somewhere in the 200-230ms range for ESO, so it’s perfectly playable.

Try Mudfish vpn. Idk what that other guy is talking about but it literally works. My ping of 350ms with a slight delay goes down to 250ms and is much better. Hundreds of us SEA players are using it

Mullvad VPN is 5$ a month (No scammy/predatory "BUY 2000 MONTHS NOW FOR 10% OFF!) and works wonders.
Idk what happened but despite living in Europe, my connection to ESO randomly just dies after 7pm my time or so. Unless I have Mullvad running…

There’s no way a VPN can improve your ping, your physical location doesn’t magically teleport, instead your packets will first go from your home network to the VPN server, and then to the game server, taking a longer route all the time. Those people don’t know what they’re talking about.

Redditors and their denial for a topic that is literally one search away, fucking sad.

Setting up can be a pain tho, I suggest looking up a tutorial.

Omg ur right i remember using mudfish for ff14 i forgor

would this help with my ping in nz?

My problem with Mudfish was its IP assigning of its manual routing system. It always gives the IP of the first routing point instead of the last routing point. It makes it impossible to play some region locked games.

For example, at one time I was playing the Lost Ark KR version. My best connection route would be to go from my location to Singapore and then to Korea. Mudfish would always give me a Singapore IP when connecting to the game server and the game could not be played without a Korean IP.

It was really annoying, I provided feedback on it and waited to see if they would change anything, after 6 months of waiting, I just stopped using Mudfish and stopped playing Korean Lost Ark.

Have they changed it yet?

It’s possible the vpn has a shorter route to the game server from the point it takes over versus the route the data usually goes. It depends on when the vpn takes over and the paths that are left.

Yea should be able to

You could change it to what location you want tho. I occasionally change mine from Los Angeles Google 2 to Conoha Japan node.

That’s fantasy, it doesn’t exist.

The only cases where a VPN can possibly speed up your Internet is when your ISP is applying a traffic filter and throttling you down, or when your network adapter is defective.

Your native routing is always going to be the shortest.

Sure but connections are not always optimal if there are only 2 nodes. This is especially true for places where the distance and connection are not optimal. For example, my direct connection ping for Lost Ark KR used to be 280-600, it could be seen on the mudfish dashboard, the distance and connections were never optimal for me. But if I went through singapore, the ping would go down to a mere 180-200. But since game could not be played with Singapore IP, no matter how low the ping was shown on dashboard, it was pointless.

I’m not really knowledgeable in VPN and all that stuff but when i used a VPN for FF XIV i went from 80ms to 50ms, doesn’t make much a difference in gameplay with low latency like that but the number was still lower and stable…

Your native routing is always going to be the shortest.

Shouldnt that vary from country to country?

Ah okay but you won’t find this problem using it for eso

And there aren’t just 2 nodes, there’s hundreds to choose from

Those are examples. Do you not understand examples?

Uh right okay, I’m just helping Op with their ESO connection. You can always check your connection issues yourself. And to answer your first question, I have no idea if they changed it.
