I got avast about a week ago. No complaints but I was thinking about paying for their annual premium membership just because the price seems reasonable enough. What’s your take?
I think any AV, is better if you pay for it, including AVAST. Everyone will have a complaint for every AV. I like Kaspersky, but there are those who say they spy on you, NSA scandal. Anybody can tell you anything about it here. They do not know what the NSA knows. If you like the interface use it.
Nothing inherently wrong with it, but Avast Premium will still try and sell you upgrades, as not every feature is included. You are essentially paying for a minor upgrade in features (over the free version) and a significant reduction in popup adverts.
FYI, Avast was prosecuted and fined last year for selling the browser history of its users, who were then targeted by advertisers. Avast say they’ve stopped the practice.
While I’d agree with the other poster on Kaspersky, if you’re hesitant, look at Bitdefender Antivirus Plus ($20 for 1 device). It’s a strong alternative to Avast Premium. AV Plus is desktop only, but Bitdefender have an excellent free Android antivirus app.
If you’re a cautious internet user, don’t blindly click links or download from dodgy software sites, Bitdefender Antivirus Free is excellent. It’s set and forget. Just install it. Even though it’s free, the protection level is very good and best of all it’s silent. Not a single popup advert. Add Bitdefender’s Traffic Light browser extension for even stronger web protection.

Probably not. I’d go for Kaspersky instead. Not sure on their prices but I’d assume they’re similar
First, paid version of every antivirus is always more comprehensive, so a big yes to pay for that. Here’s an article that might helps you.
And second, from what I saw from major site reviews and like others are saying, AVAST upsell users a lot. I got Trend Micro’s Maximum Security for myself, it do covers all my needs.
I actually used to use kaspersky back on my old laptop. That software is one of the reasons I had to get a new computer. All the constant updates for it just clogged my disk space to the brim and ground the loading speed to a screeching halt. So I’m sorry but I dont think I could go with Kaspersky again.
That’s a valid reason. If you want to stick with Avast they’re very good. I do warn they have been caught doing shady things with user data, but other than that they’re pretty decent.
Define shady if you would, good sir?
