Is it necessary to pay for a VPN subscription?

VPN yes, if you are going to pay make sure to use your own.

If you live in a country where law enforcement and ISPs go after pirates, yes, a VPN or at least a socks-proxy is recommended.

Seedbox is your best bet.

If you don’t use one, you’ll need to use your home bandwidth to seed. Which ideally should be nonstop, for at least the length of time to meet your tracker’s seed criteria. But if possible, forever. To do your part in maintaining the ecosystem.

They start at $5/mo for HDD boxes. Which is enough if you don’t use Plex to stream torrented movies and shows to your TV. Or $30/mo for NVME boxes if you need speed for streaming.

Any provider is good, just look around and compare them for yourself at r/seedboxes. No need to check posts, just use the pinned list of providers and go to each one.

proton vpn is quite good but don’t support p2p torrenting in their free plan.

windscribe and adguard vpn support p2p torrenting but give only 2 to 3 gb every month in their free plan.

but you should go for paid plans for vpn

for not having one I prefer a cell phone with a big SD card. You can either use cell data with a burner phone or wifi at a public hotspot if not someone’s house if you can get the password. I like syncthing on my burner phone for uploading torrent files and downloading complete files. I can hide it somewhere plugged in of course and I can also remote into it with any desk. Yeah yeah a big black hat James Bond ish but it works. 5 years and no problems so far. And if it’s found, it’s called a burner phone for a reason, just replace it with a cheap phone.

If a product is free, you are the product.

Think about how this would apply to a free VPN, OP. To stay in business, the VPN provider needs to find a way to make money off of you.

OP, do you see where this is going?

Mullvad is good for all three, for me anyways.

Oh, then any recommendations for a free VPN?

I just recently learnt a seedbox is basically like a remote pc environment? Then u use that to torrent then download the torrented files from seedbox to your local machine?

+1 for Windscribe. I’ve used them for years at $2/month and not a single issue.

They constantly find new ways to fuck up the OSX UI, but I love them so its become a new game of finding work arounds.

viva Mexico cabrones!!! haha

You can create a vpn yourself but i don’t know how safe it is, it is probably not since you are the only one on that network and if they find you then you’re doomed

The best you can do is get together with some friends to pay for a VPN service that allows multiple devices and split the cost.

DO. NOT. TORRENT. ON. THE ONION NETWORK.

That is NOT its intent and is not made to handle constant data bandwidth like that.

Isn’t tor the onion browser? Are you suggesting to switch from using my current torrent client (qbit) to using tor as my torrent client?

not a terrible idea if you have no other means to use a VPN, I do wonder how well peer discovery and all that good stuff would work though

There’s really no good “free” VPN which his why it’s going to be hard recommend one.

However, ProtonVPN still offers a free plan.

First of all, there is no free VPN for torrenting or any kind of streaming. Most of them cap the traffic on a weekly or monthly basis to 2 - 5GB so it’s pointless. I’ve used the free version of TunnelBear VPN a long time ago and it was fine for occasional browsing.

Be aware that free VPNs sell the info regarding your browsing/downloading habits. That’s how they make money. If you are fine with that then go for it.

I use x vpn switching between payed and free when i got spare cash
