Like many other here I’m getting jammed with the TV ‘commercial use’ hassle. I’ve seen a few recommendations for Awesun. Product looks good but Google searches on reviews etc. just find bot postings.
Is this application legit or some sort of CCP spyware?
UPDATE: For those that may find this later. I tried Awesun - works well, looks good etc. It may be legit, but it wasn’t something I wanted keep installed. The only response I got here supporting Awesun was from a bot, so I uninstalled it.
Took the suggestion (thanks u/blade_junky) to look into Tailstock (VPN), installed the free version and that works great. I can connect from laptop to home PC behind the NAT/Router and use RDP to access it.
I wouldn’t trust a company that doesn’t post their physical residence (which is required for businesses in my country, for good reasons) and buys reviews.
There’s no way to get ahold of them in case of a legal dispute.
BEWARE - I googled Netflix phone number (844-200-4543) and I called it. The gentleman who answered asked me to download this app to assist me with my vehicle tv issues. Once I did he was able to see what I was seeing on my phone. I hung up and went to the Netflix website and found a different phone number. I called it and asked if they would ask me to download the Awesun app and they said no. This app gives remote viewing access to your phone.
This morning, I was contacted by a scammer. I thought they were legit because they told me through text that there was a suspicious purchase on my Apple account. Someone had spent $143 worth of merchandise. They gave me the 1-855 number and I called it. They asked me to download this app and put me through a series of steps. All the time I’m frantically looking in the background to see if they are legit. I ended up dumping the call and calling apples Customer support line.
Long story short scammers use this website to scam you out of money .
This software is being used as a scam right now. My mother received a phishing invoice email with a phone number to call. When she called the representative demanded she first installed awesun on her computer, before it can process the refund. The representative claimed that the company “geek squad” was a legit company and the purchase was a legit one. It was a 266 geek squad charge that my mother never purchased.
The most important part was that it required of her to install the program in order to process the refund… Don’t download this program.
Sorry for commenting on an old post. This is just a warning for anyone who happens to find this when searching for Awesun (like I did).
Almost every post/comment I’ve found on Reddit that is recommending Awesun is made by a bot/sockpuppet. All of the posts/comments by these accounts are exclusively about Awesun. I would not trust a company who does this.
From what I’ve found, the software itself is fine and safe to use. I’d recommend a VPN or something to keep your computer safe if you’re worried. It’s (supposedly) a legit software that works well and is good. It’s the company that seems to be less reputable. This seems to be the consensus from what I’ve been reading. I’d also recommend a dummy email if you have to use it. I haven’t used it myself, been looking for something like it so I can game from my couch. If I try it, I’ll post my review as a reply to this post.
Just received a random call from someone pretending to be from Prime and they told me I needed to download AweSun in order to cancel my subscription?!? This software must be shady AF. My advice, stay away!!
It’s a Chinese company but they openly advertise for selling to Taiwanese clients. Fat chance I’m going to buy one of their smart plugs meant for their Taiwanese customers. If China invades Taiwan, I guarantee all of those smart plugs are gonna blow up or smth
I just fell for the same thing and quickly deleted the app after getting off the phone. Did you see any hacks in your account/changes? Did they use or take any of your data or information?
