It used to work, but it has been broken completely now for a few weeks. I was using it on a Chromebook with no issues until a couple of months ago, then there started to be errors on login. At the same time as a ChromeOS update around March 1 it stopped working completely. All I get are timeout or unable to connect to proxy errors.
I tried it on my Win7 computer and I get exactly the same results with Chrome. I can run Firefox with the extension, or I can run anything (Including Chrome) using the NordVPN app, but Chrome with the extension is dead.
So, is anyone running the Nord VPN extension on Chrome and getting it to work? If not, is anyone out there willing to try it to see if it works for them?
EDIT, 18 MAR 2019: The TL;DR version is that the problem I am having seems to be a consequence of using quick connect. So don’t, connect to a specific country. If your extension is already comatose the only way to fix it is to uninstall it, then when you log back in connect to a specific country.
I had an issue trying to go to certain websites. I fixed it by clearing my browsing history and cache haven’t had an issue since try that.
I use it several times a day with no issues on Win8.1 and Win10. Can’t say why ChromeOS is an issue.
I use Firefox, it works fine in there. I just installed it on Chrome, seems fine in there as well.
I use the Chrome browser extension on Windows 10 and on a Chromebook.
Both stopped working at the same time a few days ago. Nord support is working on this.
The extension is also unresponsive and I cannot change any settings. Only thing I can do is disable the extension in the browser and my problems suddenly disappear.
Symptoms are no connectivity as if I don’t have a network connection.
I’m currently waiting for a reply from support.
I honestly don’t remember. I’ll check when I get home from work.
Okay this works! By connecting to Canada right off the bat my connection works again. Thank you;
Very interesting. That’s exactly what I get. I’ve been putzing with some stuff.
Try this.
- Remove the extension.
- Re-install the extension.
- When you re-start, select some country other than the US. (I chose Canada.)
- Try to go to any web site.
- If it works, try changing to yet another country. Previously this would not have been possible because the extension was unresponsive. If it works, that’s a very good sign.
- Try another web site.
- Try switching back to US. If that works, you’re where I’m sitting right now.
I can’t figure why that would fix anything, unless maybe it’s caching some outdated information somewhere (at the account level, rather than on the computer) that gets cleared by switching countries. Let me know.
Same. off and on for a few months now. Normally when I connect, it will take a few seconds to actually connect. Now when I click connect, it instantly says it connected to the server. Of course nothing works. Suddenly worked again and has been working for a few days. Today i needed to play an order with Amazon and disconnected. Now I’m back to the instant “connect” with nothing working. And I have the exact same problem on both Chrome and Firefox at the same time.
Sigh. still have two more years of this crap. Last time i sign up for a 3yr vpn
I am having exactly this issue on a Pixelbook. No connectivity whatsoever when enabled.
Holy cow, this totally worked for me. Thanks!
I’ll try it when I get home from work
Interesting. This doesn’t seem to be a permanent fix. I was able to stay connected for a few hours this afternoon. Then I disconnected, then re-connected and I’m back in the same boat.
I forwarded the procedure to nord support. Maybe they can figure out what’s going on.
I think the trick is don’t do quick connect, connect to a specific country.
Cool. It’s still a widespread issue that’s causing their recent review to tank. I have two computers running two different operating systems and this issue is present on both of them. Tons of the recent reviews on the Chrome Web Store (https://chrome.google.com/webstore/detail/nordvpn-proxy-extension-p/fjoaledfpmneenckfbpdfhkmimnjocfa?hl=en) describe the issue. This is not a problem with the computer, it’s a problem with the extension.
I was fine for a few hours this afternoon. If it starts acting up again I’ll let you know. Keep us posted please with what happens.
I can’t do a thing with the Chrome extension. I can only disable/enable the extension. If I enable it then it just hangs and I can’t configure anything
I just tried using Firefox and installed the Nord extension and it fails to work, just the same as it does with the Chrome browser. No connectivity.
Did you have any control after you re-installed? Even to enter the username/password? For me the extension was totally hung up like you said, couldn’t get it to do anything. The only way to get control was to remove it from the system, then re-install it. On the login I was able to connect to a specific country. Quick connect put it back into the catatonic state.
Oh yeah, it’s been three months of this. I’ve been through everything. Chrome OS has been fully reset multiple times to no avail. I also contacted support for Google OS and they told me it was a Nord issue.
