Is AdGuard local VPN on Andriod providing the same benefits of a VPN just without the option to change IP to a different country?

I have a paid Express VPN account and now a lifetime AdGuard VPN and as we know, you can’t use both simultaneously, so I only use Express when I want to watch UK telly, but one of the reasons I signed up for Express in the first place was for privacy purposes.

It is probably a daft question, but is the local AdGuard VPN running on my phone (Note10+) giving me all the privacy and safety claimed by Express VPN, and only missing the ability to change my location for content consumption purposes (as it’s a local VPN) or is it only blocking ads and not masking my traffic?

Thanks and sorry for what could be a basic question.

Adguard “vpn” isnt a vpn as in Surfshark , pia or whatever.

Its Run locally on your device to enable filtering nothing more.

It gives you the same benefits like Ublock origin or any other adblocker

Adguard VPN isnt a "VPN"at all atleast the local one.

It only utilizes VPN tech LOCALLY to circumvent Android limits and enable filtering.

AdGuard VPN is on the way, hopefully integrated with Adblocking.

VPNs are way overhyped. Basically all they do is change your IP. Some also do some SSL tunneling so hackers have a harder time to listen to your network traffic.

AdGuard doesn’t to both of those things because it’s a local VPN. But honestly in my opinion you don’t need it.

Currently it’s not, but they are working on a real one

Yeah, have seen that, hope there is some kind benefit to exiating subscribers who purchased lifetime AdGuard and the service is all that they are promising - please be fast!

Basically all they do is change your IP.

Thats wrong.

they also encrypt your traffic which moves the Point where your data gets logged / overseen from security agencys.

Like inside the USA you could move your Exit point to switzerland less data fuckery and your ISP also cant sell your data.

Meanwhile the security agencys and the server center got access to your data.

Also on a hotspot specially companys like Restaurants , and stores like to log all kinds of shit this also protects against that.

Some also do some SSL tunneling so hackers have a harder time to listen to your network traffic.

Thats also wrong.

Most vpn Encrypt your traffic not via SSL but other Protocols like AES , Shadowsocks , and so on.

Also “Hackers” arent affected by that they dont have the Recource power to even encrypt live traffic.

Hell some ISP and some Security agencys can Live unencrypt OLD SSL versions but thats it.

a “Hacker” would just hack your device / software and get access to your data PRE encryption aka your device like a pc or smartphone.

AdGuard doesn’t to both of those things because it’s a local VPN

Thats true its hosting a local vpn server that only relies traffic internall to circumvent android limits to enable filtering.

Thanks. Noted on VPNs being over hyped.

Does AdGuard local VPN offer any privacy / security benefits, or is it purely blocking ads?

Yes true. but they should rename the Local filter one its Misleading so much for non tech savvy people and so bad explained …

Would have to be monthly to maintain server cost. I would probably pay for adguardvpn if they don’t track and let me pirate.or can they let us login to a VPN provider with a add-on or setting.

It does. It can disable trackers, 3th party cookies and set the time to live of cookies lower.

It can also do a lot of other stuff if you want it to. Go to “stealth mode” under settings and see what your options are.

I agree it’s confusing. But it really is a VPN. The difference is it routes all traffic back into itself instead of a remote server.

But it really is a VPN.

thats kinda a definition thing.

“Noob” a gaming word is actually " newbie " aka a Newguy.

But 99% of the people use it as "Asshole , idiot , jerk , useless piece of shit "

If the Majority defines a word it changes its meaning.

For everyone a vpn is a Privacy enhancing and Ip changing thing.

When everyday Joe reads “VPN” he thinks hes protected on hotspots vs hackers or whatever bullshit real vpn companys claim or that they can torrent freely and more.

Aka something like surfshark a real vpn with Ad filter.

So either adguard should rename it or clearly show a explanation in which way adguards vpn works.

Part the problem is the OS calls it a VPN. When I look at my network settings on my Android or IOS device, it lists AdGuard as a VPN. It even shows a little VPN icon at the top of the screen. So those same people who get confused will be even more confused when they suddenly see a VPN icon they weren’t expecting, and “omg I’ve been hacked”

So those same people who get confused will be even more confused when they suddenly see a VPN icon they weren’t expecting, and “omg I’ve been hacked”

This would be solved with my earlier

" or clearly show a explanation in which way adguards vpn works. "

atm it does nothing and is confusing and misleading to the average joe.
