In which case I would only turn the vpn on for things I really needed it for
But is my assumption correct? Once you connect to a personal thing using your vpn it’s never going to be useful again?

Not inherently. (Assuming a dynamic IP address).
Using the personal account will identify your details with the VPN provider’s exit IP address in use at that time. (It’ll also spread your identity around through tracking cookies and the like). The record of that will be in e.g. Facebook and anyone with access to their data. Also, the IP address might be shared with multiple users.
Assuming no access to logs inside the VPN provider, a subsequent use of the provider may have a different IP (change server to ensure this).
So it would be hard to prove that the person who used facebook as ‘Bill Smith’ is the same person who logged into ‘dodgy.com’ a few days later. About all it will demonstrate is that ‘Bill Smith’ is using the VPN.
However:
If you login to a personal site that drops tracking cookies and aren’t 100% sure that all such cookies and identifying data have been erased from your browser, then VPN or no VPN, it’s possible to track you through such things.
No, the purpose of the VPN is really only to hide the first leg of the journey from your ISP. After that expect the same results as not using a VPN.
VPNs don’t keep data logs. To anyone online it might concern, it’ll just seem like the data is coming from Jamaica or wherever your VPN is situated.
Basically. Every time you hook up a credit card thats in your name and pay for it you leave a paper trail for that vpn.
changing servers sounds like a good idea. is that also referred to as “cycling the vpn”?
i definitly do plan to use a different browser when doing stuff i want to keep private. i already use brave browser for most things but i hear firefox is pretty good too
Yea use a VPN that doesn’t keep records of your web use
i do have tor, which is what i assume your talking about, but a lot of websites dont allow you to use the site properly while on tor.
a perfect example of this is any website where you want to buy stuff. i was on aliexpress and they wanted to see my passport or bank account in order to verify my identity. and this happened every single time. i couldnt even give them money
thats why i want a payed for vpn. i know its not perfect but tor is unusable for many things.
why? becuase of my bank details?
thats why prepaid cards loaded with cash exist
