Firebox crashes and reboots within seconds when using specific speed test app on LAN

Has anyone experienced or knows the cause why a firebox would crash and reboot within seconds if I use Star Trinity Speed test tool ?

When even setting it to 100 mbit DL and 50 mbit UP, on a 1000/1000 connection. It gets about 3-5 packets through before the firewall goes down completely.

Before you potentially raise to support, you need to update fireware. Bugs have been experienced and fixed in the releases in between and this will be supports first action anyway.

What is the WatchGuard box you have and the version it’s running?

yes agreed, we are planning the upgrade before escalating.

M370 - v 12.5.2

It hasn’t crashed due to anything else, its last uptime was 170 days and I have transfers over 600 mbit download and upload (off-site backups) regularly. So it seems there must be a specific sort of packet that the firebox cannot handle and breaks, and I happened to have stumbled upon the tool that does it … that in itself is not a big deal, loads of other speed tests work fine, except this one is really detailed and i’ve used it at home to generate statistics about my connection to send to my isp, when I was getting an average of 12% packet loss, causing me to lose VPN connection.

I have had that happen on other firewalls in the past. Specifically Skype usage could fault a Nortel Contivity firewall back in the day on a specific version of software. On old versions of Checkpoint firewall software, it would fault when a specific PDF file I had was sent it through it. So it’s not unheard of. Just means there is a problem with a module the firewall is using to look at the traffic is malfunctioning.

First thing to do is upgrade your firewall. You are almost 3 years out of date from the current release of 12.7.1 . If it still happens, then please contact WatchGuard about the issue so they can patch it.
