So a while back I flashed my Asus AC-87U router with the Express VPN firmware. This is my only router. Before I flashed, I had a 5G wifi band and a 2G wifi band. Now I don’t see my 5G band anymore. Did the Express VPN firmware take away this option? This is a fairly expensive router to simply just run one network on. I would at least be able to run the 5G one if anything.
Anyone have a similar experience or work around? I liked all the options of the Asus firmware and am kind of disappointed in simplicity of the Express VPN firmware.
This was exactly my experience with my Asus AC68U router and ExpressVPN firmware.
Replaced it with AsusWRT Merlin firmware and I couldn’t be happier. Got my Wifi 5G back and better VPN performance. Slight downside is I can’t switch between different VPN region as easy as before
I was doing some more reading and my work on this tonight. Not sure about Merlin, but at least openvpn.

The 2.25 is there and you should be able to see both network.
Anyway, in the setting you can separate both.
Installed Merlin last night and added the max 5 servers. We will see how that goes. I love being able to get back both wireless bands and access to the app! Yes!
Not sure which version I had, but I downloaded the 3rd party and it gives me back all the Asus abilities with the Asus app. Much better.

But you have to configure vpn via openvpn , the Express vpn with their firmware are really nice and easy to change servers, bypass etc
Yes…I added via open VPN 1 time and it’s all good. Plus I can turn off my kids internet if I want by using the Asus app.
I can watch prime Netflix and Kodi with no issues. I’m happy!
So you installed Express vpn on your openwrt, cause their tutorials are for dd wrt. You can use the same ovpn config files ?

I originally flashed Express VPN firmware on my router, but then I could gain access to my router via the Asus app. So I then flashed the Merlin version for my router and entered the info for openwrt in the appropriate section in my router settings. Express VPN website has info needed to enter. I entered the 3 servers I wanted and I have had to change anything since then.

Cause on expressvpn website they have info for dd wrt and also asus… I’m looking for OPenwrt
