Does Bitdefender Premium Security have annoying Pop-ups?

Does this “Premium Security” version of BitDefender have annoying pop-ups that try to upsell you?

I’ve heard from multiple people that the paid versions of Bitdefender still have popups consistently asking you to upgrade to the version which includes a VPN.

It seems that the Premium Security edition includes the VPN, so I’m wondering if this version still has annoying popups?

As with basically every AV, there are settings to disable promotional notifications - https://www.bitdefender.com/consumer/support/answer/25974/

If you’ve settled on Bitdefender, save your money and go with the Internet Security suite, it offers the same protection.

You can get a decent free VPN with ProtonVPN or Windscribe, and a decent free password manager with Bitwarden.

Yes, Bitdefender coded the installation to have all of these annoying popup notifications turned on by default! They are nearly impossible to get rid of.

Want to be endlessly on their forums looking for how to disable them even after you thought that you did?

Want to be in a new relationship with their support team trying to get help to get rid of them?

Then go ahead and take the dive. I did because the reviews gave it the highest detection scores.

After a week of wasted time and new Win10 systems issues (resolved after uninstalling) but still can’t completely get this invasive software off my PC! It’s stuck in the system as active, and I’m still trying to get rid of it! Back to (should never have left) Windows defender, Malwarebytes premium, and a can’t hurt free version of Superantispyware.

I have been testing Bitdefender for the past several months since they started offering their free version and I rarely ever get pop-ups. Definitely less than 5. My computer is on for most of the day.

Bitdefender popups (e.g. suggestions to use the VPN, offers for upgrades, etc.) can be easily disabled.

I have Bitdefender Total Security on Windows and Macs - and haven’t had a popup since disabling them months ago.

Fantastic product, btw.

Thanks. I already have a seperate VPN software, and the only reason I am considering getting BitDefenders Premium Security Suite is so I can get the BitDefender VPN and hopefully that will prevent BitDefender from spamming me with promotional messages.

I read several times in the BitDefender subreddit that BitDefender still has promotional popups, even after disabling these messages. That’s why I’m trying to avoid.

Yes, one would expect pop-ups with a free or trial AV, but not coded in with a fully paid product. I never even trialed BD, I took the dive based on stellar reviews of highest detection rates. I was rewarded with being inundated with popups, and unknowingly into being what amounts to an unpaid beta tester for a paid product. I prefer just be being while the antivirus software does its thing, without letting me know every time it did what it’s supposed to do or attempting to upsell me when I already have purchased the suite.

Hi, just want to provide an update for the community. I got BitDefender for my Macbook Pro (the version with VPN but not identity protection) and I actually do not experience popups, thankfully. I wonder if this is an issue with Windows? I took the plunge & was prepared to uninstall & wipe drive if needed, but so far the popups are a non-issue.

Thank you! Which version of paid Bitdefender are you using?

Use the 30 day trial with the above options disabled and see if you get any notifications.

If you’re that concerned, use a different AV, e.g. Kaspersky or ESET.

Glad to know it worked out for you.

I am actually using the free version.
