Not that tech savy so maybe I am just an idiot but I am using my mobile phone data for my internet connection on my destkop and I am connected to my phone via hotspot.
Got suspicious because I kept getting German recomm. even though I was connected via VPN. So I checked for DNS leaks and…
shows the IP from the VPN AND my actual IP adress.
Is this a problem with my setup, if yes - how do I fix it? Any help appreciated.
Also if I am just browsing on my phone and I am connected through the phone app I don’t have any leaks.
If you have your real IP exposed most likely it is a WebRTC leak. Basically WebRTC is a technology which allows your browser to connect directly with other browsers via IP used on sites like Discord or Google Hangout to get better connections. Surfshark has a guide about how to disable WebRTC on your browser.
Additionally maybe even after solving the WebRTC leak, you can still have a DNS leak which should not expose your real IP but it’s still a privacy and security risk because it may give access of your online activity to your ISP. About this problem I’m not very sure how to solve it apart of installing the Surfshark app on your computer and connect to the VPN again on your PC.
I was having this same problem and used the OpenVPN TCP or UDP protocol to fix it. All other protocols within the windows app leaked dns for some reason.
Hey, thanks for your reply, I just tried your method with Open VPN and it works, no DNS leak there.
same here, the windows surfshark app is unusable since the latest Windows 10 updates. My DNS leak with any protocol but no problem with OpenVPN. I emailed them about it two weeks ago and still no fix.
