Custom DOH / DOT server on Windows

Hello,

I am trying Mullvad and love it so far but it doesn’t seem to support custom DOH server on Windows 11. Is there any trick to use DOH or is it a feature that the Mullvad team is/will be working on ?

Windows 11 supports custom doh. You can use that and then in the mullvad app put your local machine’s ip address as the dns server. I use mullvad together with nextdns doh and it works perfectly

Another option, If you are a user of next dns or control d, both have their own app to configure DNS over tls or http. And it works fine with Mullvad. 0 leaked.

The point is that I can use NextDNS / Adguard DNS in order to block all telemetry and ads. Mullvad’s premade list is not enough for me

The way I see it, you have 2 options;

  1. As another poster pointed, if Windows 11 supports custom encrypted DNS, then you can point the Mullvad app’s custom DNS to your machine’s local IP address.

  2. If you use separate NextDNS profiles for your VPN and non-VPN use (for two different sets of logs, for example) then you input the two IPv6 addresses assigned to you in NextDNS’s Setup tab into the custom DNS fields in the Mullvad app.

Thank you :slight_smile: I went with the first option. I think DNS aren’t encrypted over IPv6.
