Hi there,
I recently read a comment on reddit that you should check if your VPN has any DNS leaks.
I went to https://www.dnsleaktest.com and did an extended test.
The test results say that, “If you are connected to a VPN service and ANY of the servers listed above are not provided by the VPN service then you have a DNS leak and are choosing to trust the owners of the above servers with your private data.”
In my test results, under the ISP column, over half other the results named Ixpo Limited. The rest were for ExpressVPN.
Does this mean that I have DNS leaks?
I tried to talk to ExpressVPN chat about this, but they weren’t very reassuring.
Thanks in advance for any help offered.
I tried to talk to ExpressVPN chat about this, but they weren’t very reassuring.
Could you give a bit more info on what they, actually, said?
I suspect the IP addresses showing IPXO Limited are leased by EVPN to increase coverage in various countries.
sorry, bad advice.
What I would do is first establish what your dns is without expressvpn on. then compare that ip when you connect into expressvpn.
most people have dns default to their isp/cellular carrier (i.e. Verizon, T Mobile, etc.)
A “not leaking” should be a dns ip that’s owned or routed through ExpressVPN and not through your default sources.
Expressvpn uses Ixpo, GigeNET, and a few others for their vpn servers.
The servers they are referencing in that note are the IPs listed on the left. The ISPs column would be worrying if it said your ISP (I’m not sure where you’re from, but in the US, something like “Comcast”).
I don’t know the IPs you saw on the left, but as you’re only seeing ISPs of IPXO and ExpressVPN, then you do not have DNS leaks. IPXO is an IP marketplace where many places like VPNs lease IPs.
Regarding the chat with ExpressVPN, if you would like to DM me the details, I can check into it for you.
