Certain students of ITI1120 have been busted for cheating off of Chegg

That’s true if you have aziz, that goes for any class with that prof. From my experience tho Vida the prof in the email is very solid at teaching to beginners, I was coding for the first time and while it wasn’t super easy, it was very doable without resorting to cheating.

Bruh it’s not the easiest if you’re not doing the labs/homework nor listening to the lectures.

Your TA is usually the person who runs the labs.

Oh damn, that’s some dedication on behalf of the faculty.

Personally, when I was stuck on assignments, I would study previous solutions that I found online, but I would always provide my own original solution. These students should know better.

Help is available. They choose to cheat instead.

I disagree with this. I’ve personally found that sure, maybe a solution here or there may be taken from another source but most implementations are written by the developer. On top of that, one of the reasons its important to write unique solutions at least once is to understand how they work. Blindly copying and pasting code without understanding how it works is definitely not industry standard, or at least not where I’ve worked, and I personally think it shouldn’t be standard.

agreed, I can say that i struggled in 1121 and im well off now. Graduating in a year but even with the coops that ive done I can say from my experience it is industry standard. grain of salt tho ive only done 3, two being actual coding.

It’s standard in the industry to use the resources at your disposal, i.e, copying existing solutions.

There’s a difference between using available resources, and passing off someone else’s work as your own.

If you’re stuck on something and do research to get an idea of what to do, that’s perfectly fine. Posting the exact assignment question online, waiting for someone else to answer it and copying that isn’t acceptable under any circumstance.

Furthermore, it’s understandable for people doing programming for the first time to struggle in such a course.

Correct, which is why you research stuff you’re stuck on, instead of blindly copying the answer. If you can’t pass ITI 1120 without resorting to cheating you don’t have the prerequisite programming knowledge or mindset to pass any upper year computer science courses.

Maybe instead of judging them, you could help them with the concepts they’re struggling with.

I’m personally in 2nd year and chill in first year engineering discords specifically to do this. If you ask for help no problem at all, that’s still wildly different from saying “do this and ill take credit for it thx bye”

It’s not for this class haha it’s a second year class

huhhhh all this time i assumed vida was a male, never saw her just heard the name alot lol

Hey I did the exact same thing, my soltuions are always original , but I found that sometimes I would be stuck on questions so by studying those solutions it would help me understand where to start . It never occured to me that is cheating , does anyone know if we can still get in trouble for doing that?

And when you say profs website, do you mean brightspace or his own website that he runs? If it’s his own, he wouldn’t know that you downloaded the PDF if it’s all anonymous.

If the credit card information part was true, you could definitely sue them over it. An honour code investigation is not a legal investigation. As for IP addresses, even if they do give those out, using a vpn or proxy server makes it easy to avoid getting cross referenced. I hope the students that cheated arent that dumb and fall for these scare tactics tho

Yes, she does not fuck around.

No you won’t. It’s literally a resource that you have at your disposal. It’s only cheating if you copy it without effort to understand or produce an original work.

It’s like a design engineer looking at previous designs to help him finalize his own.

Oh. You should be fine to download then.

What class?

Yeah your good. There’s a lot of past midterms on notebro too btw.
