Currently on the Jubilee in Honduras. I know carnival censors porn sites. Not my beef. In my cabin I wanted to see what flavors of Truley and White Claw beverages are available from their drink menu since it says ‘assorted flavors’.
For both manufactures sites on the internet the sites were blocked. So I said to myself “self try to look up Bevmo maybe they could tell me”. So sorry Bevmo also blocked. I guess they don’t want pax comparing onboard liquor pricing with what is available back home. I will check with the onboard store and see what they say. I’m amused. If my assumption is wrong I will update.
Use a VPN and you can have access to all sites, even porn.
Total Wine used to be blocked but it worked on a recent cruise. But yes some liquor stores, adult sites, VPNs, etc. are blocked. Even YouTube is blocked on non-Premium plans (at least, it used to be). Find My is also blocked in the sense that people can’t see your location. It’s definitely annoying that things are blocked considering how expensive the service is.
This same thing happened to me!!! I had free drinks in the casino and saw the brand they were passing out, and tried googling what flavors I could possibly request because I’m not usually a drinker.
DENIED.
Super lame.
Yep. This happened to me on our cruise in May. I really liked a drink I tried at one of the bars, and tried going online to look up a recipe, so I knew what ingredients I had at home and which ones I needed to stop and buy. Every site I tried was blocked.
Reddit has porn wasn’t blocked
This is why you need a spank bank saved on your phone.
Carnival doesn’t want passengers to be able to compare prices of items sold on the ship to off-ship vendors.
It’s not just alcohol; I tried logging in to Cigars International to check the real-world price of the CAO 10 Cigar Sampler that Carnival sells onboard. Access denied. (I think the ship was selling it for $150, real-world price is $80. Glad I didn’t buy it.) I also tried to look up the MSRP’s for some watches I saw on the boat that I liked. Denied access to the manufacturer direct; but I managed to backdoor those by going to Amazon…and I learned: never buy a watch on the boat. The $2,000 (Carnival price on Mardi Gras) watch that I liked…$125 on Amazon. I wore it on formal night on the last cruise and one of the guys waiting in line with us for photos asked if I bought it on the boat. He showed me a similar watch (same manufacturer) that he had purchased earlier in the day onboard. I didn’t have the heart to tell him…
Also, for anyone thinking about buying art from Park West at the onboard art gallery, please allow me to offer the following advice: Do not walk, run for the nearest exit; go jump into the nearest available pool and stay underwater until the desire to purchase art onboard goes away. If you see something you like, write down the name of the piece and artist. Search for it on eBay or other online source & buy it when you get home. You will get it for pennies on the dollar compared to what it will cost you onboard. There are legions of folk who purchased cruise art once upon a time, only to find that the slick sales pitch from a silver-tongued Park West gallery operators relieved them of thousands of dollars to make them the proud owners of a piece of art worth hundreds. Whatever it is, I guarantee you’ll find it cheaper anywhere else; don’t take my word for it, go to eBay & search for Peter Max.
The one potential caveat on art is for people who are serious art enthusiasts. If there is a specific piece you know Park West has in their collection that you are willing to pay grab-your-socks prices to get, go ahead and contact Park West prior to getting on your cruise (I recommend at least a month in advance) and let them know what ship/sailing you will be on, and that you are interested in (Enter Piece Here). If it’s one of their prestige pieces, they’ll do the financial verification dance with you, take a deposit, and bring it onboard so you can give it a once-over before taking it home.
As far as the pre-owned luxury watches, you’ll have to ask someone else. I’m not trusting enough to drop that kind of money on a watch where I have no possibility of establishing/verifying provenance, parts accuracy (if replacement/repairs have been made with OEM parts or not), etc.; the risk-to-reward ratio is way too off for me to consider it. Best of luck to anyone who can drop that kind of money on a whim and is willing to risk it.
I don’t understand why you didn’t just ask a person working on the ship that would have known.
I was on the breeze about a month ago and I could not log into my only fans even with a VPN.
I was on Frenzia about 2 months ago and SSLVPN was still blocked for work, alcohol blocked and carrier wifi calling blocked.
I’ve never once, with the premium package, been blocked from visiting any site that I wanted to visits. I haven’t tried to access porn on a cruise but I’ve compared liquor prices right in front of the salesperson on the ship just to make sure the deal was good LOL. If you’re not using premium wifi then lots of stuff is blocked
Carnival WiFi blocks VPNs. You can’t use a vpn unfortunately.
Edit: apparently I’m wrong and vpns work now or at least some of them
Used a free VPN to watch soccer—worked pretty well!
Hah! My “free bottle of wine” for booking speciality dining the first night was a whooping $4.99 bottle of Santa Helena merlot. I was embarrassed.
That’s a fascinating observation about Carnival’s pricing tactics. It’s concerning that they seem to be actively trying to prevent passengers from comparing onboard prices to real-world prices. It’s a good reminder to always do your research before making any purchases on a cruise ship, as the markups can be quite significant. I always though watches were cheaper duty free. Thanks for sharing this insight!
Keep in mind with Park West you can’t walk it off the ship. They will ship it to your home.
Made that mistake once. Weeeee
That’s not true. I use PIA on my phone on every cruise.
I went on a cruise (paradise I think) a few weeks ago and I was able to access some VPN sites via SurfShark. Not all connected, but some did.
Mine definitely didn’t work last time I was on
