Does anyone know what the problem might be? I can access sharepoint if I’m connected to the network, but if I turn on my VPN. I cannot access anything. Any ideas?
If I had to take a guess – the VPN you’re connecting to can’t route to whatever network SharePoint is on, and it also forces all traffic through the remote router instead of your local one.
Do you know what I could do to help fix this? I have 20 laptops and this is the only one that does it.
Not sure what VPN client you are using but if it’s win7 then there is a checkbox in there somewhere that says “use remote Router”
It’s weird. Using windows server VPN and everytime I go to our sharepoint URL it shows up in a bunch of weird symbols. Cannot get this thing to work.
what shows up as symbols?
Definitely try pinging the server like brutal_one suggests. 90% of VPN issues are caused by DNS configuration problems. So ping the server by name first, then by IP address.
If you can ping by IP address but not by name, then you have a DNS issue and need to fix the DNS config in your VPN client.
If you can’t ping by either, then you’re not getting a proper VPN connection and/or have a routing issue.
If you can ping by both but still can’t browse to SharePoint, it’s probably an IE issue, check things like proxy/connection settings and so on. It’s also possibly some kind of malware issue.
I’ll check it out on Monday and let you know the updates.
