Can you use VPN to sell on Mercari and Poshmark while traveling abroad?

I saw one person posted on the Mercari sub once about not being able to access Mercari during her trip overseas because Mercari is only for US and Japan market. Only one person said he was able to use VPN to still sell on Mercari a few year ago when he was in South America. I’m planning a 30 day vacation traveling overseas soon and would like to keep selling during this time. I do have someone help with shipping once item sold. Just wondering if anyone can confirm VPN will allow me to access my Mercari/Poshmark accounts while I’m outside of the US. Thanks!

Mercari blocks all vpn logins. There have been users traveling abroad who were locked out. I am unsure how posh handles it. So unless you trust the person shipping to access your account you’ll need to put your account on vacation mode. I’m unsure about Poshmark.

I know this is an old thread but maybe helpful for someone.

Vpn does work but it can discover it and lock your account or block the vpn ip. Turn location services off before opening the ap. I access using airplane mode over Wi-Fi with vpn on. If you forget these steps and open the ap, it will find you out. Once it finds you out then you’ll be locked out. I had to delete the ap, reinstall and use a new account over a differently allocated vpn ip to get it to make a purchase. I was in Europe and it took some wrangling.

Mercari generally knows if you are using a VPN and can and will close an account over it. While some may get through, you have a solid history of being in location X and then later in location Y. This is just one of the things that trip them.

Just deactivate everything and enjoy your vacation.

If you’re using a VPN that you’ve setup privately at your own house, and you’re only accessing from online? Sure. Otherwise many corporations block VPN access from the large providers.

I have a similar question, but as a buyer. Living in Sweden, I have a c/o address (to a relative) to ship to in the US, who then fwds things to me periodically. The problem is – I can’t even CREATE an account … does anyone know how to (or if it’s possible) to bypass that?

I mean, let’s say if I got someone to create an account for me as per above, would I be able to log in and make purchases from here, even? Using a Swedish card …?

I don’t see why a VPN would not work in this scenario. Very easy to test yourself; you don’t need to be out of the country to test. VPNs are very cheap these days and you can even find free ones. I prefer Mullvad.

NordVPN works. I successfully sell from Canada. Haven’t had an issue. I used to sell licenses for NordVPN and sold quite a few to people for this reason.

I’m using a VPN. I have tried other VPN programs and they don’t work but NordVPN works with Mercari and Poshmark. I recommend NordVPN. That’s good to know I could test it here - I thought I had to be outside of the US to find out. I worry because some apps can detect your location somehow even if you use a VPN. For example my friends tried to set their location to US cities on Tinder (so they don’t have to pay the expensive membership fees or something to be able to search outside of the country) and it never works because apparently Tinder has the technology to detect VPN? I do have high hope that Mercari and Poshmark don’t have a huge problem with people trying to bypass geographic restrictions like Tinder users, so they probably weren’t as invested in stopping VPN users. But yeah I should probably just pay for a VPN and try

Yeah. Sorry. I didn’t want you making a plan and then finding out you can’t access Mercari. You can email Poshmark to ask about their policy.

do you use a dedicated IP from nordvpn? or just their regular vpn (that changes all the time)
