I tried to use Proton vpn on the school network, and when I tried to connect vpn with protonvpn, it doesn’t work for some reason. It says “connection failed”, so is it because I am using the free version and not the pro version or does protonvpn not work on school wifi?
What CAN you do on school wifi?
1.If the Free doesn’t work, neither will Pro…(in most cases) both use the same exact protocol, while the Pro has more IPs that are as easy as the free ones are to blacklist…
To Connect:
1.Try their Stealth protocol, banning this would require knowledge beyond the average School IT’S level
2.If they have a genius that has managed to screw over the Stealth protocol, install Windscribe, & try their Stealth & WSTunnel Protocols… Especially the WSTunnel is a protocol used to transmit data in most web app, which make sit hard to ban…
3.If nothing works, get a VPS yourself, and host a VLESS/VMESS/ShadowSocks proxy… These are almost impossible to ban, and will 99.99999% work…
What I would do is build my own wireguard VPN on an AWS lightsail instance for a couple bucks a month and use that as my proxy. The IP address shouldn’t be blacklisted as a known VPN and using wireguard could help get around other potential blocking mechanisms.
Check if the VPN UDP port is reachable. You can bypass anything if you use a https protocol
However I tried other vpns on my school network like X-VPN and Windscribe vpn, and those vpns work on my school wifi. How come proton vpn doesn’t?
Spend less time trying to get around school filters and more time doing your work. If there is something you need for class that is blocked, approach IT about getting it unblocked. We’re not all assholes. But can and will block VPN connections.
I started having problems today, when the stealth protocol was released I stopped having problems, today I am unable to connect to US free servers, but Netherlands still work, so maybe try using servers in multiple countries using stealth mode.
Yes, the free version is worth a shot but needs some configuring depending on the network. I’ve had a school which managed to block auto connect and Wireguard, but if you go to the profiles section you can select a different protocol.
I’d suggest trying the TCP Protocols first - do wireguard, then openvpn, after that try Stealth. Most admin don’t bother researching much into it and just Block outgoing connections on UDP.
If that doesn’t work, you can try the other countries, try beta testing Proton, relogin to refresh the server list, or mess with alternative routing. Also you can try using whatever app store (chrome store / Google play, microsoft store, iOS App Store) to install multiple free vpns and test which one works. There are also web proxies you can try but first see if a vpn using TCP works.
Good luck!
I have a slot for Wireguard vpn. I can share credentials if you want to check it on your school wifi.
Yes openvpn-TCP works on my school wifi. None of the other protocols work. I even tried paid vpns like Expressvpn and Windscribe on all the protocols but they didn’t work which is odd.
Chat with classmates in google docs.

Your welcome
Thanks just turned on the stealth setting In proton and it worked
Protonvpn is dedicated to privacy and security so they only use open source protocols. The thing is that the team is so small and they have tons of requests so they aren’t bothering adding any fixes.
If xvpn and windscribe works then I’d say stick with it. I remember a school I went to where those 2 were the only working ones. The reason why they work is cause they have more bypass methods to get around and they’re less popular so the ips aren’t blocked.
I’d also suggest trying vpn 360, vpn super unlimited proxy, and kiwi vpn just in case they ever block the ones that work.
Lol sometimes it’s not even down to the IT admin.
nah turns out my school has a whole fucking crowd of geniuses
Sorry, I was thinking at IKev2 but yeah, TCP or UDP depends what vpn type you’re using
Alright, thanks for the help

This is not correct
