BSOD on Windows 10

BSOD crash on Windows 10

I just got NordVPN last week and had to turn it off almost immediately because every time I turn it on, it immediately crashes my Windows10 to BSOD, typically with the error: “PAGE FAULT IN NONPAGED AREA,” which I’ve seen online has something to do with
unauthorized memory access issues.

The problem arises when I turn on VPN and then attempt to do literally anything in a web browser, like going to Google.com.

Mitigation steps:

  • Contacted support (nothing’s come of that yet)
  • turned off additional features like threat protection, etc. (nothing)
  • per customer support, uninstalled and redownloaded from the provided link (same issue)
  • disabled windows firewall (nada)

Does this sound familiar? Thanks in advance for any insight.

Found this old post, so maybe you’ll find something useful: https://www.reddit.com/r/nordvpn/comments/z9aqxh/windows_bsod_after_nordvpn_update/

Also, if you learn something new from Nords support, please share it with others. GL!

Hmm. I had 2 bsods on Win11 last night which I assumed were due to an unstable overclock (pushed my i9-13900k to 6.1 Ghz) but after reading this post I’m wondering if Nord was responsible.

Update 1/20: Nord support said the following:

“Our developers have thoroughly reviewed your case and unfortunately, it seems that this issue is related to your network driver.

After further investigation, it seems that the issue is caused by a specific Wi-Fi Broadband adapter, which is no longer actively supported and has not received any driver updates starting from 2016 by the manufacturer.

If you wish, we may proceed with a refund for your services, or you may use NordVPN on your other devices, as NordVPN can provide many benefits for your other devices as well.”

I’m gonna look at what my options are from my end. Any advice here before I say screw it and get my refund?

Thanks, yes I did find that and sadly their fix didn’t help me. Nord support doesn’t know this issue so they’re going to give it to their technicians and they said it could be a couple months. I asked them for a refund in the meantime.

I just installed NordVPN and had the same issue immediately after install. Nord runs and connects but as soon as I go to a web site in Firefox, the BSOD appears. What network adapter are you using?
