Same here. It was very strange. It happened after some update. I just disabled it.
https://www.techmantle.com/?p=1239 “In response, the privacy-focused Brave browser has announced plans to resolve this issue in future versions, ensuring that the VPN service will only be installed after a user has purchased it.”
Thanks god I just checked my startup apps for no reason and saw this SShhiitt, Just clicked on search online, wft brave, They forked chromium and made it secure and debloat and now filling it up with their own bloats.
same, is there a way to uninstall just that part? i saw brave_vpn_wireguard_service got on startup, i disabled it for now.
Yeah, uninstalling this trash.
You installed Brave, you’re installing their VPN with your consent already given whether you like it or not.
It autoconnects on my Android as well. Clearing the app cache fixes the problem, but if you use it afterwards, it will do it again. My conclusion is that this is a faulty cache file or it could be an exploitation but idk to what end
I just noticed this and found this thread. Wtf! I hope they fix it soon otherwise I’m leaving Brave.
the hell with you brave! uninstalling and never coming back!
This makes brave
basically malware
I used BleachBit to uninstall brave and switched to FF.
I just uninstalled Brave after finding this myself
A few times manually deleted services and brave bravely installing them back. Was good to know you brave.
I uninstalled brave for this
i followed the advice rfickle gave and i can confirm if you ENABLE “disable wireguard-protocol” it works.
“borderline malware”?
My word is “sneakware”
Do you know if its actually “malware” that can harm my computer? just a bit paranoid
What browser do you use instead?
Goddamnit, it’s so hard to find a good browser these days. I’ve gone through and used several “big” ones for extended periods (Firefox, Chrome, Opera) and thought I’d finally found the one in Brave. Not looking good.
Thank you so much! I was just looking for a solution to remove it. I went to check my startup for another program, but then noticed Brave wireguard, which I have zero recollection of installing/enabling.
Not sure why this feature was self enabled even though I don’t use Brave VPN, but it’s kind of annoying and let’s just hope that they don’t do more stuff like this or things going to be suspicious.
