For our honeymoon, my husband and I are doing a 7 night cruise on the Disney Fantasy and then spending a few days at the WDW parks. With the new lightning lane multi pass system, we are allowed to book our lightning lanes 7 days before our park days, but we will be on the cruise without internet. We already have our tickets so booking them through a travel agent isn’t an option. Any advice on how to navigate? Anyone else run into this yet?
You have to be physically in the US for the app to allow you to buy them. It will depend on whether the app considers the cruise a valid location in the US.
VPN doesn’t work, location is done via GPS in the app. You will need to get on the WiFi and hope wherever you are is considered part of the US by Disney’s app. Or get someone on land to handle it for you.
As I recall if you’re on the ships WiFi you get a Celebration, FL IP address. But another commenter suggests it maybe gps in the app.
(If anyone is on-board now and has WiFi, type http://whatismyip.com into a browser and tell us what it says for IP location.)
I would suggest buying one day of WiFi so you can get things booked.
Interesting question. The free WiFi DCL provides my understanding is that it has access to some Disney resources, mostly to allow you to make reservations.
We always done land then sea, not the other way around so really can’t comment as I’ve never tried to do anything while on a cruise, but back when they had the Internet support desk I remember they said tou would have access to the WDW web site for example.
Good question for planDisney…
I reached out to the Disney support team and it was confirmed that the only way to book lightning lanes is from within the US and I would have to wait until I’m back in the US to book. So my best option (and maybe only option if the VPN loophole works for anyone) is to get someone I know to log in for me and book. They logged my feedback about frustration with this system.
Also I’ve never used a travel agent so I don’t really know what I’m talking about there.
Do you have a friend you can trust to book it for you?
I’ve never done it, but in that case it sounds like giving a trusted person your login and asking them to reserve for you
I was just on the Fantasy and no one could book LL. Most called home to have a family member do it for them.
What’s the logic behind this? That’s kind of crappy considering how many people travel internationally to come to Disney.
Are LL’s bookable on WDW’s website rather than App? If so VPN with laptop would not encounter the GPS issue.
VPN does work, so long as the VPN you use also has a GPS override. I watched an Australian vlogger do it the other day.
I’m Canadian… you’re telling me I have to drive the 38 minutes into the states and book my lightening lane at 12:00am???
Jesus Christ, that’ll be an interesting one for the border guard…
Disney confirmed Lightning lanes can only be booked within the US.
Yeah I think this is going to end up being my only option.
I think you can book from Canada too. Would be hilarious if you had to cross the border just to book some passes!
I’m from the UK, I need to start my vacation two weeks early to book apparently lol
I mean I’m close enough to the border that I could potentially do so, but Jesus, I really hope I can just book in the comfort of my own home country lol
