I know I’m late to the party. But I just bought a fire stick and get it on Friday. Should I install my VPN on my router and then is there no reason to install a VPN on the fire stick unless I am traveling with it?

You’re not, VPN companies promote themselves as if they’re different, the only thing they can really do is obfuscate your IP. Your data is still hitting every relay station to get to the destination and it can be captured and decrypted just like any other service. The only other argument is that if the company is foreign to you, they MIGHT be able to skirt legal requirements and/or subpoenas however being outside legal jurisdictions can come with its own problems, like being able to say you don’t sell data when you actually do.
