Are Vpns against TOS?!

its been debated enough i need to ask

If wish or need to use a VPN for SL, you should.

I have never heard of a VPN being against TOS, and I’m pretty sure a large number of people use a VPN the second they turn on their computer.

Back when I myself used a VPN, I would turn it off when going on SL just because things slowed down a bit while the VPN was on… It would give me lag in other words.

Why would VPNs be against TOS?

Neither “VPN” nor “Virtual Private Network” appear anywhere on this page. You can use Ctrl+F to check for yourself.

I imagine it would only be against ToS if you use it to evade a ban.

I’ve never heard of anyone banned for using a VPN unless of course it’s used to circumvent a ban.

There’s no rule that prohibits VPN use in Second Life. It will slow down your experience, though. And decide whether to use it or not before you log in. If you turn your VPN on or off while you’re in Second Life, you will crash.

A guy told me once that using a VPN would speed up my SL experience. Apparently he thought that the VPN was a second SL connection, and that somehow the two connections would combine and enhance your speed. That’s not how this works! LOL

I don’t know but wouldn’t a VPN add to the lag?

VPNs are against TOS if they are used to get around something you shouldn’t be doing in the first place. For example, if you live in a banned state for skill gaming, but use a VPN to circumvent that ban, then they absolutely would ban you from that.

“Attempts to circumvent our entry restrictions will be a violation of our Terms of Service and may result in termination of your account in Second Life.”

An argument could be made that using a VPN to go to a casino from a banned state would be illegal and against ToS.

Shouldn’t be. I always recommend to people who are on SL at RL work to use one, in case the IT department is snooping in on traffic.

im this many years old when i found out that they’re is a system that detects weather you been on bad viewers an I don’t touch those but people have been getting banned an not ever beeing on those kind of things an they usually end up using a vpn because they don’t wanna be mistaken for that kind of business so i’m asking for a collective of people

is this against tos??

I don’t think it’s against TOS, I dii on by see why it would be. I use mine all the time anyways so I sure hope not!

I’ve noticed no difference in using a vpn versus not using one, I got one for privacy reasons and it’s been working great.

Oh but “that’s not gambling, those are skills games!”

That’s not how viewer detection works.

If only they were fun games.

then how does it work??

Viewer detection is in the viewer code itself, that gets transmitted to the server when you connect.
