Any workarounds to use PIA in Egypt?

Hello,
I’m spending my vacation in egypt, However I’m not able to connect to PIA servers.
I think the government here is blocking VPN. Any workarounds to be able to connect? Or it’s just a lost case?

Edit: Managed to get it working using Shadowsocks proxy

I read somewhere that the SOCKS5 proxy works, so if you use the multihop feature, you can connect to the VPN via PIA’s SOCKS5 proxy. Understanding the Multi-Hop Feature - Knowledgebase / Technical / Application Settings and Features / Application & Features - PIA Support Portal

So how did you do it using shadowsocks on android?

Thank you for doing this by the way. You wrote a good guide. I have gotten stuck right at the end sadly. I choose the PIA_nyc route on shadowSocks, and I chose the same for PIAs location. When I try to connect PIA while ShadowSocks is active and transferring, PIA goes yellow and keeps trying to connect and is never able to. When I try to turn of the VPN is just spina yellow and above it says something like %s seconds next attempt to connect and fails.

I tried something that isn’t exactly work, but is interesting. I went into VPN kill switch which now has both options for PIA and ShadowSocks. I turned on the always on option for ShadowSocks (but not block all non VPN because it breaks the connection) and it is giving me a new external IP address even though the the PIA is not connected --The 37.19… IP. It isn’t totally stable. I checked the where is my location website and it thinks I am in New York, but Google knows I am not even though my GPS is off. Any ideas what is going on?

Do you have a guide for IOS?
The app you mentioned in is only on android and I am really confused on how to reach similar setup on IOS.

Are you asking is the socks5 is available on the desktop app? I don’t think socks5 is part of the desktop application

Hi, I just tried PIA us_nyc in shadowsocks and used PIA VPN to connect to US new york city. The setup works for me.

I assume you use the protocol openvpn in PIA VPN. Did you double check if you selected TCP transport?

If you don’t change the transport default to TCP, you’ll get stucking connecting in PIA VPN.

I don’t have an IOS device. There are some other alternatives though. You can get the app Ooni Probe, which will tell you which circumvention method works. For me on vacation in Egypt Psiphon VPN worked as well, this one came positive out of the Ooni Probe test.

It’s not on Android mobile. It works very well on Windows. Unfortunately, it’s hard to do anything with you already in country because any work arounds I have will also be blocked.

I travel there often. It’s a beautiful place but yes, they block a lot of internet.
