Any benefit to google one vpn when using nextdns?

I keep getting nagged by google to upgrade my plan to google one. In addition to the extra storage, it comes with google vpn.

I’m using nextdns on my phone (iOS), are there any additional benefits to using the google vpn as well? What does it give me that nextdns doesn’t?

Google VPN, very much sounds like the Fox guarding the henhouse.

Using Google as a VPN means granting the largest or second largest privacy violator in the world a privileged position with respect towards your browsing, a VPN provides no technical protection, it only provides protection if you trust VPN service provider (in your case Google) more than you trust other Men-in-the-middle, like your ISP. It shifts trust.

Maybe I’m missing something because I don’t have an iPhone, but you’re comparing two different types of technology. Encrypted DNS will filter out the bad and help secure the browser. A VPN will tunnel your entire device and hide your IP/spoof your location. So it kind of depends on what you want.

Would both be helpful on a large, public wifi network? Yes. Would having both on all the time in your home be overkill? Probably, but I’m no privacy guru.

google vpn will mask your IP but won’t protect you from other trackers’ technologies. IP is just one tracking point, and hardly the more relevant point.

Also, using a Google VPN would not eliminate the problem. It would only shift trust from OPs ISP to Google (the worlds largest tracking and advertising company). The usefulness of a VPN is premised on the idea that you will choose a service provider who you trust more than your ISP.

I would not personally trust Google or my ISP to responsibly handle my private information, both entities have a long and well documented track record of exploiting private data for their own profit, as well as giving access to 3rd parties.
