After setting up VPN on travel router, my 2 connected computers are showing different IP locations?

So I set up NordVPN (tried different config files, for Canada) on my GLiNet router.

When I check the IP address/location online (whatismyip,where-am-i etc.) on my personal laptop, the locations are correct - all in Canada. But on my work laptop (tried both wifi and ethernet), the locations are always incorrect locations in the U.S. (I’m physically in Canada).

For example, when I check online:

Toronto ->incorrectly showing Ashburn, VA

Montreal-> showing NYC

Vancouver->Santa Clara

What could be the possible issue here? I’m primarily using this VPN router set-up to temporarily work abroad without my employer knowing. Would it work even though it’s showing an incorrect location when using my work laptop?

Thanks!

Edit: similar issue when I run a speed test. From personal laptop it says server is in Montreal whereas from work laptop it says New York.

Check what your work computer IP/location is prior to running it through nordvpn, I am willing to bet it is the same. Likely your work computer has some sort of VPN of its own, so it would be like a tunnel within a tunnel.

You’re right i think that’s the issue!

Thanks for this. The issue is when I check the IP addresses, they are totally different. I’m not sure how this is even possible, both from the same travel router.

Personal: 45.88.190.47 (Montreal)

Work: 161.69.123.10 (NYC)

I’m in Toronto with VPN set for Montreal.

That’s a good point. I originally thought skyhigh security was a server associated with nordvpn. Now I realized no matter which IP I see, it’s always with skyhigh. It makes sense now. In getting connected to their servers all over the US depending on my own VPN location. Thanks !
